The origin of the model certainly dates back to the 9th century. In the model you can you can still recognize the viking ship. The word færing contains the Norwegian word for "four": it has 4 oars.

There are also larger copies of the færing: the seksæring, åttæring and tiæring have 6, 8 and 10 oars. The keel beam is usually made of oak, the strakes are made of pine and are attached to each other by rivets.

The vessels are about 6 m long and constructed of 3, 4 or 5 strakes. They are still made in the fjords between Stavanger and Trondheim, each with its own characteristics. This færing was built from 2007 to 2011 on Wieringen based on the line plan of the Hardanger fartøyvernsenter, a maritime museum which is highly recommended and where many færings are still made annually. Furthermore, much information was gained during vacations (which from then on were also called 'study trips' by us) along various shipyards along the Norwegian coast. Among others: - Hardanger fartøyvernsenter in Norheimsund ( - In Os the Oselvarverkstaden( .no). - Magne Fauskanger's workshop on the island of Tysnesøy. The wood was purchased from Houtzagerij & Houthandel 'De Zeewering' of Henk Zwering in Pingjum (no longer exists) and Houtzagerij Twickel ( During construction, the advice of Kees Hos and Magne Fauskanger was very valuable. Because little suitable wood is available in the Netherlands, concessions were made.

Instead of warblers, the trusses of this færing are made of thinner strips of wood bent in a steam box and then glued together. The point pieces, the twisted first strakes, are hot-fired planks.
