Sea Ray Boats needs little introduction as it is one of the top brands of luxury cabin cruisers, deck boats, and sport boats coming out of the United States. It was founded in 1959 by Cornelius Nathaniel Ray in Oxford, Michigan, and soon became a household name. Over the next few decades, Sea Ray and it's hard-working founder fine-tuned its models through innovative technologies as well as paying close attention to the likes, dislikes, and needs of its owners. Indeed, Cornelius (Connie) even asked General Motors for design advice to create boats as beautiful as the cars being produced in that era.
It was perhaps unsurprising, given the huge success of Sea Ray, that Brunswick Corporation offered $350 million for Sea Ray in 1986. Brunswick also purchased Bayliner, another key player in the industry, at the same time, making it the biggest producer of boats in the United States. Today Brunswick builds Sea Ray Boats from its headquarters in Knoxville, Tennessee, and maintains the same ethos of producing luxury, high-performance, technologically-advanced boats that it always did.
Sea Ray has an enormous number of models over the years, ranging from 17 to 65 feet, but today focuses on boats up to 40 feet. One of the most iconic and long-standing ranges is the Sundancer Series, as well as the L-Series. Throughout its decades of production, Sea Ray has always sought to push the boundaries, whether that was being one of the first to use fiberglass in its construction or pioneering integrated swim platforms into its molds.
Sea Ray Boats has produced a lot of models over its lifetime, and they are widely represented on the used boat market. They offer good value for money as they have a reputation for durability and safety, and because of the numbers produced each year there are plenty of models to choose from.
The current line-up includes five ranges and over 32 models. Beginning with the iconic Sundancer Series (in production for over 45 years) there are five models including the Sundancer 265, Sundancer 320 (inboard and outboard models) to the Sundancer 370 (also inboard and outboard models available). These versatile family weekend cruisers offer comfort, performance, and speed, with spacious cabins, huge deck spaces, and an exhilarating ride. The Sundancer has long been a favorite with families looking for a sporty, practical, luxurious all-round cruiser.
The SLX Series is one of the brand’s largest and consists of 12 models of sport boats, ranging from 25 to 40 feet in length. Many are available as inboard, outboard, or even surf models, honing the characteristics to suit different owner’s needs. Features including bow seating, precision watersports technology, rear sun pads, large swim platforms, hard T-Tops, innovative storage, and the latest in technology are just the beginning. The largest in the series is the SLX 400, which offers additional features such as an expansive cockpit social zone with wet bar and dual grills as well as a fold-down swim terrace.
The SDX Series, which features six models ranging from 25 feet to 29 feet, is Sea Ray’s sporty, fun range aimed at families and groups of friends wanting to get out and simply enjoy time on the water. While still luxurious, it skips some of the frills of other ranges, focusing instead on lots of comfortable seating, precision handling, and watersports.
Another versatile range is the SPX Series, which consists of six practical, fun, family runabouts ranging from 19 feet to 23 feet in length. Easy to trailer, with lots of seating for family and friends, watersports accessories, and the signature Sea Ray styling, these are fun, fast, and feisty boats. Mention must also be made of the Sun Sport Series, a sporty runabout designed for European and international markets that is available as the 230 or 250 models.
Sea Ray’s founder was Cornelius Nathaniel Ray and it was founded in the year 1959.
The Sea Ray headquarters are in Knoxville, Tennessee, U.S.
The Parent Company is Brunswick Boat Group, a division of the Brunswick Corporation.
The Sea Ray SPX Series are sporty runabout boats and the range consists of 6 Sea Ray yacht models. They are: SPX 190, SPX 190 OB, SPX 210, SPX 210 OB, SPX 230 and SPX 230 OB. The boats are ranging in size from 19’ to 23’ and are extremely affordable and very easy to tow and run.
