KIS is a Spirit of Tradition day sailer designed for the relatively light wind conditions of the Mediterranean and inspired by the Skerry cruisers of Scandinavia and yachts such as the all-conquering BONA FIDE that have proved so successful on the classic racing circuit. She is in our view a modern interpretation of the fin and bulb rater – fast and exciting to sail, so she is a provocative mix.

Design CommentaryThis design has been inspired by many yachts and in particular the Scandinavian Skerry cruisers, all Metre class designs, hull shapes of America’s Cup yachts post Millenium, Herreshoff and Fife designs, along with some Dutch lake sailing yachts. The lines therefore derive somehow from detailed study of all these yachts. Notwithstanding modern design concepts, the lines have however been drawn in the traditional way by hand and then faired with the aid of CAD design software. KIS has an IRC rating certificate and has been developed intentionally for the Spirit of Tradition races in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and North America.
Construction- Foam-cored epoxy hull finished with cloud white Awlgrip paint system- Foam-cored epoxy superstructure finished with cloud-white Awlgrip paint system- Integrated coaming in hull- Nautix A4 T white hard antifouling - Flush / Nautix two component non skid system- Flush custom made hatch on foredeck- Flush custom made lazarette hatch- Jeffa rudder and bearings- Custom made 280 kg fin of Duplex steel with 1810 kg lead bulb
A key feature provides for dismantling in just half a day at a shipyard as the keel, rudder, mast, boom and bow sprit all come off with ease. When ready all materials including the hull can be rolled on her own trailer into a 45 ft pallet wide sea container; ideal for winter storage or perhaps a double season in the Med / Caribbean – anyway ready to move anywhere in the World.
Accommodation and Domestic EquipmentThe forward port side cockpit locker contains a 100 litre fridge. To starboard a bunk is reserved for keeping personal effects dry and safe. Other bunks are cleared for fenders and lines storage and much more. If these ones are full there is still more storage spaces in the lazarette.
Given the low freeboard and fine underbody KIS has just the space inside to store all sails and lines accessed by the flush deck hatch forward of the mast.
