The Diva History - Diva 451

Diva 451 is a development of the Diva 45, with a new deck, still two cockpits, but now the helmsmans cockpit to the aft. New interior with angled bulkheads for more efficient use of space. There were approximately 30 built of the Diva 45 and 451, delivered around the world. Today they sail in the Puget Sound, Seattle, Bodensee in Switzerland and the Baltic's.

Owners Comments and Sailing History

The Diva 451 was built by Fabola Yachts, the first fiberglass manufacturer in Sweden.

Swan was a spin-off from Fabola. Both Fabola and Swan make fast, strong, double-cockpit sailing vessels for the North Atlantic, which makes them ideal for the Pacific Northwest.

Sunny Red sailed on her own bottom from Sweden, across the Atlantic and to the USA.

The second cockpit is ideal for off-duty crew, passengers, and grandkids. You can sail the boat and still keep an eye on them. Grandkids just love the pilot berths (with lee cloths). Single-handers can sail Sunny Red without leaving the cockpit. Her bow thruster, self-tending jib, autopilot, electric-winch, and roller-furling main and jib make her ideal for both single-handers and sailing couples.

In five years of cruising the San Juan and Canadian waters as far as Desolation Sound, including Princess Louise Inlet, Sunny Red was never passed by another boat under sail. Sunny Red performs extraordinally in heavy winds as well as light. The wheel is responsive, and very balanced. Sunny Red points very well into the wind. The diesel furnace extends the cruising system well into fall.

In conclusion, Sunny Red is the family/couple/single-hander cruising boat that loves to race.

Additional Equipment

* Bow Thruster - Vetus 45 kg - helps get you into unfamiliar tight marinas.

* Electric winch - enables one person to deploy and stow sails in minutes, to catch that elusive light air puff on light air days. It is also handy for quick response to sudden gusts, when rounding islands.

* Windlass - upgraded to a handheld controller for safer deployment of the anchor. The foot switch controls of the windlass have been disabled

* A heavy duty isolated starter battery was added to extend battery life of the house batteries.

* A generous supply of spare parts, including fan belts, alternator, rigging spares, filters, lubricants, tools, and manuals.

Additional Information

The present owners of Sunny Red will provide an afternoon of boat systems training for the new owner.

A 50 foot slip at John Wayne Marina in Sequim, WA is available immediately to the new owner. Ideal starting point for your cruising or as a weekend getaway!

Sunny Red is the ideal boat for cruising with two couples, plus kids along. There are two staterooms with privacy doors for the parents, and two pilot berths for the kids, and two heads. Plenty of room around the spacious dinette table for six and generous storage room for food in refrigerators and storage cupboards. Creature comforts are provided by diesel heat and hot water from AC at the dock or hot water from the engine while underway.

The present owners cruised every summer for 4 to 6 weeks in the San Juan Islands, Vancouver Island, Canadian Gulf Islands, and Desolation Sound. Many stops were in anchorages in beautiful, sheltered bays. The equipment on Sunny Red made it possible to have extended periods away, without staying at a dock:

* auxiliary fuel tank

* generous water supply

* generous refrigerator and freezer space

* hot water

* back-up anchor and rode.
