"SILVIO is a true classic, thoroughbred yacht. Commissioned from the renowned Robert Clark as a racing and cruising yacht, she shares many similarities to her sister CORABIA (built 1957). SILVIO has remained in the same family’s ownership since her construction in 1957/58, and was named after their Derby winning racehorse. She remains almost completely original (though up to date with regard to electronics etc) and has been regularly maintained. Great care has been taken to ensure any replacement gear and fittings are in her original contemporary colours and style."SILVIO has competed in many races in British and European waters, including the 1961 Fasnet Race, as well as numerous cruises. The yacht is extremely well balanced, light and responsive at the helm; built for speed but extremely stable in a following or quartering sea. Designed for a racing crew of six, she has been handled by an extremely experienced sailor single-handedly."

Commissioned from Robert Clark by the experienced sailor the Hon Robert Boscawen MC, MP, as a racing yacht, SILVIO was named after his family's 1877 Derby-winning racehorse.The yacht was a regular participant in offshore races, including the 1959 and 1961 Fastnet Races. The latter was one where just finishing was worth a prize, and SILVIO came in a creditable 7th in Class II.However, this wasn’t her owner’s first experience in offshore racing, having raced the Household Division Yacht Club’s Abeking & Rasmussen 100 Square Metre “Windfall Yacht” GLADEYE (ex RELHER. later EISVOGEL) through the 1950s, and sailed closer to home with his earlier yacht, the 1904 Alfred Mylne/ Robertson of Sandbank Clyde 30 CORRIE [I] (not to be confused with CORRIE [II] the Fife/ Robertson of Sandbank Clyde 30 still well known on the Solent).SILVIO's very close sister CORABIA, launched by the same yard a year earlier, became one of the best-known Dutch offshore racers of the late 1950s and early 1960s: a member of the Dutch Admiral's Cup team in 1957, 1961 and 1963. But SILVIO often seems to have finished ahead when they raced together.SILVIO has been enjoyed as the family’s cruiser and occasional racer ever since, studiously kept in period and well maintained - including the structural needs of a 60-year-old - until relatively recent years of careful lay-up.
