Nordic Tugs is an American brand of luxury trawler cruisers. It re-defined the long-range liveaboard cruiser, creating models that are fuel-efficient, spacious, safe, and durable. Search for new and used Nordic Tugs for sale all over the world, refining your search by length, age, budget, and location.
Nordic Tugs has been building elegant cruisers for decades and its current line-up is the culmination of years of refinement and perfection. It offers six models ranging from the 26 up to the 54, each with its own character and appeal. At the smallest end of the line-up, the Nordic Tug 26 is a model re-born out of popular demand. It was one of the first Nordic Tugs to be built and while the demand for larger sizes saw production stop, the idea of a compact and capable cruiser is back in demand once again. Able to sleep four, and with a wet room, galley, and convertible dinette, the model packs a lot into a small boat.
Heading up in size to the 34—which is available in both standard and flybridge models—this model also sleeps four but in a full-width main cabin and spacious saloon. With impressive interior space it makes for a comfortable liveaboard for a couple, as well as a family cruiser. The 40 and 44 models build off this premise, with yet more space including a queen berth, guest stateroom, and large head and galley. With many customizable features including the hull color, as well as 370 hp engines, these are highly capable and comfortable cruisers.
At the top end of the line-up are the 50 and 54 models, able to accommodate up to seven people for overnight trips, or a family in utmost comfort. The list of standard features is dazzling, and yet further example of why these boats have a reputation as capable and luxurious cruisers. With spacious galleys, two cabins and twin heads, and all the features and comforts you could need long-term, they are the culmination of years of fine-tuning.
Size isn’t everything, however. Performance-wise even the largest models of Nordic Tugs will cruise up to 18 knots, with a fast cruise of 14-15 knots. A leisurely 7-8 knots will use just 2-2.5 gallons of fuel per hour.
With such a long history of building durable boats, it’s perhaps no surprise that there are good quality second-hand models to be found on the used boat market. Models include the predecessors of the current line-up, such as the Nordic Tug 26, which was the very first model built by the brand.
Nordic Tugs is a prominent brand of American-built leisure and working trawler boats. Within their revolutionary recreational sector, the company offers luxury, long-range, fuel-efficient models that have become some of the top liveaboard and luxury cruiser styles in the world.
The brand’s history dates back to the 1970s when founder Jerry Husted and designer Lynn Senour came up with a model of tugboat that paid homage to the classic tugboats of the 1930s yet, thanks to its revolutionary semi-displacement hull, was incredibly fuel-efficient. The result was a tug that appealed to both the recreational market and those using them as hardy working boats.
Throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s Nordic Tugs soared in popularity thanks to the boats’ unique combinations of luxury designs, flexible speeds, fuel-efficiency, huge interior spaces, sturdiness, and safety. It was a style that hadn’t been seen before, and by 2003 the line-up had grown exponentially to include 32, 37, 42, and 52-foot models. By 2007 the brand had received the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) Certification for all its models, which was evidence of its strong safety record.
Nordic Tugs are renowned for their durability and performance, as well as their luxury and aesthetics. Much emphasis is placed on building boats that will stand the tests of time as well as the tests thrown at them by the oceans. Multidirectional stitch mat fiberglass cloth and a special vinylester resin provide strength and durability, while stainless steel reinforces critical areas. Wires and cables are marine grade tinned-copper, and hardwoods are used on the interiors.
Today Nordic Tugs operates out of an 80,000 square-foot facility in Burlington, Washington, and exports boats across the world.
