MARCH 2022 Survey Available
MechanicalAs with most of these models, the engine of choice is a single cylinder Yanmar 1GM10. The reason is quite simple. This engine offers reliability and economy and fitted beautifully into the engine space provided. Very few of these units come with an hour meter, they are sailing boats, but the beauty of this particular engine is that the consumables are often shared with farm machinery meaning spares can be purchased in remote areas providing they have a farm shop. The engine is well maintained with most recent service in May 2022 ready for the season. She is exceptionally frugal so dont be alarmed by her small capacity tank. The present custodian has even rigged an emergency tank should there ever be any contamination. The engine is located beneath the companionway steps allowing all round access for servicing and daily checks.Single lever engine control in the cockpit with forward/reverse gearing. Engine start panel mounted above companionway steps. Reduction gearbox driving stainless steel shaft and NEW 2-bladed propeller.gBank of two, 12V batteries providing engine start and domestic power. Rotary style isolator switch mounted in aft cabin. All battery cables and isolators have been replaced within the last three years.Batteries are recharged via the engine alternator, onboard Sterling battery charger or charged from the onboard solar panel. At the chart table is the 12V switch panels for onboard equipment. These have all been replaced within the last 4 years along with all the wiring. There are new 3-pin sockets fitted in saloon and galley for use when hooked to shore power.
Deck stepped, single spreader, aluminium spars with a 7/8ths fractional rig. Mast is mounted in a tabernacle. All lines are led aft to the helm for easy sailing. The stainless steel standing rigging was replaced in March 2022. The running rigging is in great condition and has been replaced on an ongoing basis.Rigging led aft to helm via turning blocks and jammers. Lewmar ST30 winches mounted port and starboard on cockpit coamings. The fully battened mainsail is mounted in a lazy bag on the boom. This has 3-reefing points. The furling headsail is self tacking making sail handling with an inexperienced crew very easy indeed. For the more adventurous there is an asymmetric spinnaker with pole and associated rigging. Spare set of main and jib if required.

Below decks is surprisingly spacious when you consider her 8-meter length. What helps massively is her generous 6-foot headroom and equally generous 9-foot beam. This allows for a decent sized galley and chart table to exist on opposite sides of the boat. The interior is in excellent condition with recently varnished woodwork and owner modified deckhead panels in the saloon and heads. The yacht is classed as having 6-berths. Ideally, the boat is more suited to 4 and makes an ideal couples boat or for those with a young family. The aft cabin has a double berth with bi-folding privacy door and cupboard storage. Outside the aft cabin is the galley with spirit fuelled, Electrolux 2-burner hob. Stainless steel sink with hand pumped fresh water and top loading cool box.Opposite the galley is the aforementioned chart table. The "seat" is at the end of the portside settee. Here you will find chart storage, chart reading light, 12V switch panel, GPS/plotter, clock & barometer set, and the VHF. Aft of the chart table is the heads compartment again with a bi-fold privacy door, moulded sink unit, wet locker and New Jabsco marine toilet. There is a central drop leaved table with fiddles. Comfortable, well-upholstered settees/berth with storage behind and below. There is a clever double berth arrangement in the bow which extends by flipping the backrest of the forward saloon settee up into place. Excellent storage area beneath the forward berth. The interior headlining, hull coverings and fabrics are in excellent condition. There is an opening deck hatch for ventilation and there are 12V deckhead and reading lights.
ConstructionThe Hunter Horizon 27TK was launched in 1989 to replace the popular Horizon 26. In 1990 the boat was renamed the 272 and later became the 273. By all intents and purposes they are all one and the same. She is a David Thomas design. David had been involved with Hunter since 1975 who brought us the very successful Sonata, Impala and Medina designs. In an effort to bring more cruiser orientated yachts to the market the Horizon range was introduced. The boat itself is fairly fast around the cans and will appeal to the cruiser who likes a turn of speed. The boat is in super condition and is in a sail away condition.
The hull has been well maintained and has been regularly stored ashore for topsides polishing and antifoul coatings. Most recent antifoul was in April 2022 prior to launch.
