DESCRIPTION

Price Reduced March 2021

"Ultima Fuga" (formerly "Final Approach") is a 60ft Fast Cruiser designed by the renowned New Zealand designer John Lidgard. This yacht is built for speed while offering a very comfortable layout, prepared for world cruising.

Purchased in 2009 by the current owner family, significant effort has been invested to create a comfortable live-aboard that can be easily short-handed, without compromising its race-standard performance in all wind conditions. The owner aimed to make the boat a truly self-sufficient floating home capable of sailing anywhere globally in any weather.

The boat features a high-capacity water-maker and sufficient solar and wind power capacity to operate without fuel. With a little patience during low wind, this boat could complete a non-stop circumnavigation.

She accommodates eight people in an aft ensuite captain's cabin, pilot berth, double master, and crew cabin forward, complete with a separate shower room and day head.

The second shower room has been converted into a wet room for diving equipment, with a medical-standard air compressor permanently installed to provide hookah air for diving, maintaining the hull, addressing ground tackle issues, or catching breakfast!

This Lidgard boat promises speed for the owner. It is constructed from wood with a one-inch Kauri skin, edge fastened and glued, covered with two 5/16-inch diagonal Kauri layers, and finished with triaxial glass cloth and epoxy. It's a fast yet comfortable vessel.

The boat is well-trimmed. The slot is described as poetry in carved ivory. The helm feels delicate, balanced, and responsive. The occasional spray on your face enhances the feeling of vitality.

The transom of the boat is steadily growing larger, and there is no inclination to turn on the engine.

Since purchasing the boat, the owner has overhauled all systems, including complete rewiring, rigging replacement, and revisions of plumbing, air flows, refrigeration, instrumentation, ground tackle, dock lines, etc. The engine and hull have received close attention and remain in excellent condition, needing only ongoing care. The engine has low hours for its class and operates without issues; oil and fuel filters have always been replaced well in advance of recommendations.

The entire rigging, both standing and running, was completely replaced by race-renowned Glen Hanson of Alameda, CA in 2010 at a cost of $65,000 and has been stressed very little since.

The mid-ship cockpit provides an ideal refuge for the crew in foul weather, featuring a retractable top cover, benches, and a deep well for seating. During ownership, the owner installed larger scuppers to handle heavy rain or wave action.

October 2015 Survey and valuation available upon request

The October 2015 survey includes hull, rudder, and keel thermal imaging prepared by a certified master marine surveyor, USSA, and documented shipwright with over 225,000 miles offshore experience as the designated captain of sailing and power vessels from 50' to 425' in most oceans worldwide.

Hull Construction And Arrangement

The basic design is a fin keel sloop cutter rigged.

The construction process involves cold molded Kauri wood with fiberglass laminate on the bottom and freeboard portions of the hull. The decks are teak over marine plywood, painted with epoxy base paint and anti-skid finish. Deck protection includes stainless stanchions with dual stainless wire. The keel is a semi-winged fin type, and the rudder is spade in design. The bow rail and anchor management system includes a bow roller, windlass, and chain locker. The decks feature opening hatches, and the rigging and sail management systems allow ample walk-around deck space. The center cockpit is spacious, and the aft cockpit is equipped with steering, machinery controls, and sailing and communication instruments. The sweep transom includes a boarding ladder. A robust stainless-steel structure spans the entire aft section of the deck, supporting the dinghy davits, outboard hoist, radar arch, bimini, and solar panels. The davit arms are currently hoisted by a standard winch, but the structure is designed to accommodate an electric hoist if needed.

Ships Steering

Primary: Single Wheel and Pedestal Cable and Sprocket Drive & Brake/Spade Rudder
Emergency Tiller Quadrant Access, Mechanical, In Cockpit

Interior Construction And Arrangement

The interior construction features all wood and mastic with stainless fasteners, including furniture, cabinets, flooring, and supports. The stringers, longitudinal braces, and bulkheads are also wood. The separate aft stateroom is accessed via a companionway aft and hallway from the main salon.

The captain's cabin can be converted from a bunk to a queen-size bed with an interlocking, multi-piece wooden conversion.

The main salon shares space with the navigation station and is fitted with settees, dinette, and ample storage. Access to the main salon is provided through a second companionway from the mid-ship cockpit and the walk-through hallway. The galley to starboard includes sinks, cold food storage, propane stove and oven, microwave, countertops, and cabinets. The machine space is under the middle cockpit sole with access through side doors. Forward are the main head and separate shower, crew bunk spaces, and two workshop and storage areas.

Ample lighting and outside light are provided via port lights and overhead access through opening deck hatches throughout. The cabin sole is laminated wood throughout. The settees and bunks are fitted with padded cushions and mattresses.

Electrical Systems

All AC management is housed in a waterproof enclosure, completely isolated from the DC systems. Earth leakage protection is provided, and the shore power ground line is isolated with a galvanic isolator.

Dual 110v and 220v systems can be supplied from battery or shore power available in any region of the world.

The 110v systems can be supplied by: a 6kW inverter from battery power; directly from 110v shore power; or from 220v shore power via a transformer. A 220v system can be supplied by: a 2kW inverter from battery power; directly from 220v shore power; or from 110v shore power via a transformer. This allows the boat to dock in any region of the world and use shore power safely and easily.

An additional high-output alternator, in addition to the engine alternator, ensures that the house system is quickly recharged.

Spars And Rigging

Standing Rigging: 1/2'', 5/8'' and 3/8'' Stainless Wire, Chains and Turnbuckles, Adjustable Back Stays New 2010

All winches are consolidated into the mid-ship cockpit, freeing the aft cockpit of lines and allowing the helmsman to focus on their job. Single-handing remains perfectly possible by controlling the autohelm remotely from the mid-ship cockpit.

The mainsheet is routed via the boom to avoid the risk of crew getting caught in a powerful loop of line in the case of an accidental jibe, although the possibility of this has been reduced by the addition of winchable preventers.

Similar safety adjustments were made to the routing of the running backstays and jib sheets.

Winches: Lewmar #55 ST, #65 ST, #52 ST, 8 Total

Mast/Boom and Spreaders: Extruded Aluminum New 2010

Sails: Dacron and Nylon, Main, Stay, Storm, Spinnaker, Genoa 120, Tri Sail
Sail Management: All Routed Aft to Cockpit.
Light Air: Spinnaker and 15' Whisper Pole
Doyle furling 135% genoa, which serves as an excellent main headsail for general use, providing significant power while remaining easily manageable by one person.

Both headsails furl, and the staysail has been adapted accordingly. A brand-new cruising spinnaker was custom-made for the boat by Doyle of San Francisco in 2010 at a cost of $8,000 and has never been used.

A better lazy-jack system has been implemented for frictionless operation. The mainsail is powerful but originally required a full crew. The new lazy-jack system with blocks and lines now enables easy, frictionless control in all weather, even when short-handing.

The original pole set consisted of two heavy-duty poles for handling a large symmetrical racing spinnaker. These were replaced by a modern lightweight whisper pole for the asymmetric cruising spinnaker in 2015. The pole is designed to be storable on the mast.
