Happy Days as she is known is a 7.25 metre RIB powered by a Volvo Penta D3 turbocharged inboard diesel engine. Built as a category B chase boat for a yacht in 2006. Bought by me specifically to enjoy a tour around the North Scottish Coast on my retirement in 2019. In preparation for my two-month cruise and given the waters I was going to cross, I had a major engine and stern drive overhaul by a Volvo agency before departure. She was fitted with a new propeller, water pump, turbo, and alternator. The engine and stern drive have just been serviced (August 2021), work which included the replacement of the sterndrive bellows.
Happy Days is the most stable and comfortable RIB I have ever driven. Her very low center of gravity means she does not tip or rock easily. She cuts through waves to provide a gentle ride and is very dry. In the seas off Scotland she proved herself to be a very capable vessel. I have cruised the south coast, the Scilly Isles, and the north coast of Brittany in her and will be sad to see her go but my age makes this type of activity unpopular with my family.
