Inspired by the design work of William Atkin, New Zealand boatbuilder Cecil Lange started building the Cape George 36 almost four decades ago in Port Townsend, WA. Other smaller and larger models came from this yard over the years, always with a commitment to the tradition of fine boatbuilding. Ferenc Mate included this builder in his popular review of The World’s Best Sailboats, and over the years, the yard-finished Cape Georges (they also provided hulls for owners to finish) measured up with the finest of the “hand-crafted” boats coming from Sam Morse (Bristol Channel & Falmouth Cutters) in California, and the famed Morris Yachts in Maine.
The fact that MANUHUKA was fully and professionally built by Cape George Yachts cannot be emphasized enough. The knowledge, experience and boat-crafting skills utilized for the limited number of yard-built boats far exceeded that of virtually all of the owner-finished boats. Additionally, MANUHUKA has undergone major refits in 2007 by the original owner and 2014 by the current owner, to make sure that she remains in top functional and cosmetic condition. Please see full details on the extent of these refits as described within the body of this presentation.
Over more than 30 years brokering high quality cruising sailboats in the Pacific Northwest, this broker has had the privilege to be involved with the listing and selling of several of the very nicest of the Cape George 36 cutters, and has seen others from this select group. For overall construction, thoughtful interior layout, superb finishing inside and out, and impeccable condition, I can say without reservation that MANUHUKA is certainly one of the very finest of this class ever to come along. Please review the detailed specifications and photos provided, and inquire with questions you may have or to arrange a viewing time. More information about this design and builder (now called Cape George Marine Works) can be found on their website (capegeorgecutters).
