All About the SQUIB:
Half- decked keelboat designed in 1968 as an inexpensive general purpose one-design class suitable for family cruising and club racing. The Squib was granted National status by the RYA in 1972. She is strongly constructed with a round bottom and fin keel, and has a high ballast ratio with built-in buoyancy which makes her stable and powerful enough to carry full sail in a strong wind. She also performs well in light airs. The Portsmouth Yardstick Number is 1107.
Good sea keeping qualities make her particularly suitable for sailing in coastal and estuary waters. The foredeck rises around the mast to give shelter to the cockpit and also provides a small cuddy. A small outboard can be fitted to the transom bracket to provide auxiliary power.
The Squib can easily be trailed behind a family car. There are 24 active racing fleets in the UK. – The National Squib
