Dudley Dix 500 in build with CRW-Construction in North Carolina, USA.

This Hull # 1 of a limited series (5 maximum) - It is a stretch from Dudley’s Dix470 plans and utilizes identical bulkheads. This was done with his knowledge and consent. It is another example of his well thought out and revered designs. Accomodating up to 8 guests, in 4 double cabins she is very comfortable for her size. It is still possible to change the layout to an owner's version with 3 cabins, if this is the preference.

Designed with both speed and comfort in mind, this head turning 50ft catamaran offers good performance and a crunch the miles when required.

This boat is being built to USCG and ABYC regulations. The asking price includes all the works required to finish the boat, any optional extras or changes would incur additional costs.

Please note - some of the photos used are of other Dudley Dix vessels to give you an impression of what the finished boat could look like.

So, What Sets This Sail Catamaran Apart From Others?

So, what sets this sail catamaran apart from others?

1.    Weigh in! yes displacement and heavy load makes all the difference to performance, and you can get a light boat without the need to pay millions.

The DIX500 will launch at 24,000lbs and is available at $905,000.

Standard fiberglass production 50’ boat launches at about 48,000lbs and current cost above $1,200,000.

Carbon fiber production boat 50 feet floats at 18,000lbs and will cost a $2,000,000 and more.

2.    The unique complete plywood double skin construction of the DIX500 with 38mm-52mm 1 ½” – 2” of foam sandwiched between it, will save on cooling or heating costs and make for an incredibly quiet ride and assure hours of peaceful sleep at anchor.
3.    Worried about wooden boat water ingress or maintenance issues, the DIX500 exterior is 100% incapsulated in fiberglass laid with West System epoxy and finished in the best epoxy and polyurethane paint systems available.
4.    The built-in redundancy resulting from the electrical and plumbing systems in each hull being set up as individual boats with connecting solenoid and electrical valves provides both the security of always having a fall back as well as the economy of being able to recharge on one engine.

Spars And Rigging

There are numerous options for the rigging and sails; ranging from maximum performance with a mast clearance of near 70 feet to a lower performance with a mast clearance of 63 feet to allow for some intracoastal water way use. This is the first decision you will need to make when you purchase this vessel as the spar manufacturers worldwide are backed up.

Work And Purchases To Complete Build

1.    Finish decks on both hulls and forward of control cockpit; stringers in so require double skin, insulation, and fiberglass 1708 which joins to hull. Materials on hand.

2.    Port hull interior and mechanical 90% complete with engine in, starboard hull engine on hand engine beds in rest needs to copy port to complete. Prop shafts and propellors need to be purchased

3.    Main support girders are in place complete with interior lighting and spreaders, need to construct side panels with windows and finish off top.

4.    Purchases to complete and launch boat, portholes, hatches, (Vetus) windows and 2 doors (Advantec), top side paint (AWLCRAFT).

5.    Electrical and plumbing 80% of total boat on hand and mostly installed, require 2 x inverter and Lithium batteries all as per specification

6.    Major purchases: spars and trampoline, all rigging and sails
