OVERVIEW

Sonny III is an ideal family cruising yacht for all oceans.

She represents the culmination of the Owner’s lifetime love affair with sailing! She is the third custom design he has commissioned and built and his third yacht in partnership with Brooklin Boatyard. The yacht represents the best quality by Brooklin’s Downeast craftsmen, from her high tech, cold molded hull and deck to her sophisticated and simple sail handling systems that allow her powerful rig to serve up thoroughbred performance with minimal crew.

Sonny III has among the most elegant flush-deck profiles of any yacht ever launched, with broad expanses of ½” thick teak decking, surrounding her two oval shaped, bright varnished teak cockpits, each protected from the elements with full Dodgers and removable Bimini covers. From her tall carbon rig to her flush mounted custom hatches and varnished dorade ventilator boxes, to the magnificent classic shearline, she truly turns heads in every port of call.

Her interior provides all amenities for gracious living aboard in 3 staterooms, fully equipped galley and large main salon with navigation station/office. Both the aft cockpit companionway and main companionway are equipped with a removable seated escalator, for easy access below.

DECK LAYOUT

Fully aft, Sonny III’s tender is managed on custom davits that fold away when not in use. Likewise, her aft swim platform deploys hydraulically. Immediately forward of the transom are two large Lazarette hatches, port and starboard, to the full width stowage area.

The Helm Cockpit is next forward, with a full-width helm seat aft, facing the custom steering pedestal and hand-crafted teak wheel. All sail handling, mechanical and navigational controls are within arm’s reach of the helmsman and the cockpit is surrounded by the powerful electric Harken winches for easy sail trim. There are seats port and starboard and the cockpit is protected with a full dodger with opening forward window, plus a removable bimini cover for sun protection. Forward in the cockpit is the companionway to the Owner’s stateroom with instrumentation above.

Guest Cockpit is next forward with a large, varnished drop-leaf teak table at center that comfortably seats 6-8 for dining. This is the most inviting area on deck, at the center of rotation and hence the least motion, well protected from the elements by the dodger forward and bimini above, as desired. Although the guest cockpit is in the center of the sailplan, it is clear of all crew activities which makes it he ideal spot to enjoy the sailing experience.

Forward above the companionway is a full function B & G Zeus MFD Screen, plus (2) MFD’s, analog and magnified Apparent Wind Indicators.

The mid-deck area is well detailed for efficient sail handling, with (2) electric ST Harken winches just aft of the spar port and starboard and efficient fairleads for all halyards. Mainsail mandrel controls are located in the same area for efficient setting and furling operations.

Forward of the mast, the foredeck is flush and elegantly detailed in teak, with (4) varnished dorade ventilator boxes and custom, flush mounted hatches to the cabins below and sail locker forward. Windlass, dual bow rollers and a custom teak bow pulpit seat are fully forward.

ACCOMODATIONS

The Main Salon is amidships and full width of the yacht, with a large oval shaped teak varnished table with holly compass rose inlay at center, surrounded by a custom leather settee. On centerline, the settee back becomes cabinetry, facing another full length couch/settee to port in this expansive, comfortable salon.

The Navigation Station is aft in the salon to port, with a full navigation desk and extremely comfortable custom leather seat facing all navigation/communication instrumentation on the aft bulkhead and complete electronics panel outboard. Immediately aft and outboard of the Navigation Station is a double wet locker.

The Galley is aft of the salon to starboard, with a 240 Volt 4 burner convection cooktop and oven with broiler outboard, with a microwave oven above.  Two 12 volt refrigerators are fully aft, and a 120 volt freezer/ice maker is forward, all with an abundance of cabinet and counter space between. The deep double sinks are inboard, with additional cabinet and counter space.

The Owner’s Stateroom is fully aft, accessed port or starboard from the galley or navigation station, and via the separate companionway from the helm cockpit. Outboard to port is a large double berth, with a wide single and extremely comfortable reclining chair to starboard. The stateroom has generous stowage in a large hanging locker to port, fronted by a small settee, plus numerous drawers, lockers and cabinets. The Owner’s ensuite head is forward to port, with a separate stall shower.

The Starboard Guest Stateroom is forward of the salon, with a wide single lower berth and single upper, plus drawer and locker stowage, hanging locker and opening hatch above plus and ensuite head with stall shower. The forward Guest Stateroom is to Port, also with over and under single berths, drawer, locker and hanging locker stowage, opening hatch and ensuite head with stall shower.
