The J/80 has matured to become Europe’s best selling sportsboat.
Joxer – formerly Opera Season – has been based in Falmouth, Cornwall since 2019 having very successfully competed on the J80 circuit in the Mediterranean for the previous 6-7 years. In 2019 she was raced lightly with family before taking a big jump to more extensive and thrilling racing in 2020 and 2021, racing in the local IRC class.

Joxer gained some great results from these two seasons. Over the last 2 years she has been very lightly used due to other commitments, only taking place in 2 races each year.
Despite this, she has been immaculately race prepped for the last 10 years and continues to be so. Investing in New North Sails in the winter of 2020 and new running rigging in 2023 and a one-off North Sails Code Zero in 2021 all of which makes for very exciting racing especially when racing in IRC Class.
The enduring success of the boat is as a result of many factors, but relate in principal to its inspirational design and superb standard of construction. The J/80’s high stability and built in buoyancy make it the only sportsboat with a Category B offshore classification. She has a proper lead keel for high stability, a tough two spreader mast, a large cockpit and ‘top of the range’ jib furling system and deck gear.
The J/80 is an ISAF one design and as such, is entitled to hold both European and World Championships. J/80s are check measured and weighed at major events, sail purchases are restricted to one suit per year and professional helmsman are not allowed to ‘parachute in’ for regattas. Racing is fair, fun and targets owner drivers.

Construction
- Hull and deck are built with a composite balsa cored structure system
- A strong bulkhead absorbs the chain plate loads
- The hull has a deep moulded sump to which the lead keel is bolted and epoxy bonded
