Why own a Glacier Bay? Why are Power Cats so revered for ocean travel? Whether it be a fishing excursion, diving or just cruising, you will immediately detect the stability of the Glacier Bay 3470 Ocean Runner. Unique to the hull form is a large, aft swim platform between the outboards. This platform is large, accessible and extends beyond the engines allowing stern-to tie-ups, swimming or diving and even space to load a small inflatable during transits.
Designed to withstand the difficulties boating in the Pacific Northwest, Glacier Bay bows can withstand collisions with submerged logs. Consequently, the company reinforces all its boats’ stems with Kevlar and six to 10 layers of premium E-glass 24-ounce woven roving. The Kevlar runs the full length of the stem and wraps around to the keel. A foam-filled double bottom creates a virtually impregnable, watertight compartment in the bow. Stretching aft are more foam-filled compartments separated by watertight bulkheads. The rest of the hull is solid fiberglass almost an inch thick.
Comfort is prominent in the design and layout of this vessel. The cockpit is protected with a solid windshield, enclosure and temperature controls. The pilothouse L-shaped lounge to port seats 4 to 5 comfortably. The captain’s swivel seat provides additional seating.
The pontoons are nicely organized for comfort and extended stays. To port, the master stateroom has a queen berth and lots of stowage, plus a large head and shower. To starboard is a second stateroom with a double berth and a well-equipped galley. Glacier Bay installs considerable sound-insulation material on the lids and bulkheads surrounding the engines, making for an exceptionally quiet ride.
This vessel has 300HP Yamahas that are close to end of life. The owner is purchasing replacement HDMI 4-strokes. Check with the broker for current status.
Glacier Bay engineered an excellent rigging and tackle station in the portside cockpit module. When you open the station up, tackle trays fold down automatically. There is also a 47-gallon lighted livewell with an aquarium window. There are plenty of rod holders in the gunwales and down below. With props so far apart and a tunnel in the center, this boat backs down and spins on a fish better than most.
Despite two individual hulls obviously narrower than a single monohull, living space aboard the Glacier Bay 3470 is most comfortable, even for people of well above average size. Come aboard and check her out!
