Wooden Ships Comments on this Kim Holman Stella Designed by Kim Holman and built by Tucker Brown in 1971. Thought to be a ‘modified’ Stella class with alterations requested by the commissioning owner. The main differences from the normal Stella are as follows:
- Masthead rig
- Thicker hull planking, 5/8” rather than 9/16”
- Self draining cockpit
- Small round portlights
- Possibly a slightly deeper and heavier ballast keel.
It is clear she is a Stella design, this was at one time confirmed by the builders, but she is not in class and would not qualify for the class racing, however she is a very capable small offshore cruising boat with a pleasing turn of pace and the motion of a proper yacht. Since purchasing the boat in 1983, the owner has kept up with a steady maintenance regime including replacing rigging and keel bolts on a rolling program and generally keeping the boat up to a good standard for coastal cruising. She has explored the English channel extensively, been south to St Nazaire and west to southern Ireland. A fine little yacht with a very diligent and experienced owner, recently launched and ready for the season. Length on Deck 26’ Length Overall 26’ Length Waterline 20’ Beam 7’6” Draft 4’4”
