DESCRIPTION

Nordhavn 76 ‘Aquilla Renee’ was built by second time Nordhavn owners and it shows. Nothing was left out, and nothing was overlooked in this magnificent ocean-going vessel.

The moment you walk in the aft saloon door you really get a feel of the open and airy spaces aboard ‘Aquilla Renee’. ‘Aquilla Renee’ has one major surprise, especially for a 76-foot motor-yacht, which is a second master in the wheelhouse, known as the VIP cabin, with access to the aft deck. We will touch base on this more in the Pilothouse section. She is an aft pilothouse version of the Nordhavn 76 with the double walkway, lower deck configuration. The double walkway allows the vessel to dock on either the port or starboard sides, while still having easy access to the dock. Her machinery spaces were spec’d to be reliable and redundant, especially with the John Deere main engine, John Deere wing engine and the two Northern Lights generators. The navigation equipment also has many redundancies and is what you would expect to see on an expedition yacht much larger in size. ‘Aquilla Renee’ has proven herself to be safe and reliable year after year with voyages up and down the east coast of America, across the Atlantic, throughout the Med and as far east as Turkey. She is currently residing in London.

SALOON

The main saloon has an open and airy feel with great all-round  visibility. The saloon is protected by Nordhavn’s new FRP watertight doors, an upgrade to the previous aluminium doors which would occasionally corrode and the paint blister. The interior is finished in African Cherry wood, with furniture pieces made of Italian Charco wood with a satin gloss finish. This combination of wood is truly amazing and has won several interior design awards in the past. The satin gloss finish and contrasting lighter wall covering ties the styling together nicely. The starboard side of the saloon has a comfortable built-in “L” shaped settee covered in Ultraleather, with ample storage below. On the port side there is a beautiful dining table that has been secured with seating for six. The TV is mounted in a lift that rises from the cabinetry but can also be hidden when not in use. The general feel of the saloon is warm and relaxing, with complimentary styling. The overhead cherry wood accents and wall sconces are beautiful additions to the overall “rich” feel.

GALLEY

The galley of ‘Aquilla Renee’ is a gourmet chef’s dream with top-of-the-line appliances, ample counter space to prep meals and an abundant amount of storage. The saloon is open to the galley, so the chef behind the counter can always be involved with guests and crew in the saloon. The countertop is one level with three barstools making for a great dining or entertaining location. Within the galley there are premium Thermadore appliances and dual GE Monogram refrigerator/freezers. The backsplash above the cooktop is equipped with a pot filler faucet, a great addition allowing for efficient filling of larger pots and pans. The galley storage has been very well thought out with pantry space, overhead storage and lockers on both the forward and aft sides of the peninsula countertop.

OWNER’S STATEROOM

The owner’s stateroom of ‘Aquilla Renee’ is finished in a rich satin gloss African Cherry wood, Italian Charco wood and Maple with the lighter wall covering tying it all together. The full beam design creates a spacious and roomy stateroom. The hanging locker and drawer storage in this stateroom was well thought out, with multiple hanging lockers and several banks of drawers. There is more storage here than you would find in most homes. ‘Aquilla Renee’ has a large walk-in closet on the starboard side, which is rare on a 76-foot yacht. The stateroom is also equipped with a king size berth, as well as three vertical and oversized fixed port lights per side, and opening overhead hatches allowing for good natural light as well as ventilation. The owner’s head is quite spacious with plenty of storage, his and her sinks, a large walk-in shower, and a separate, private toilet area.

GUEST CABINS

Two of the guest cabins onboard ‘Aquilla Renee’ are downstairs, and each have their own individual en-suite heads. One unique design feature that sets ‘Aquilla Renee’ apart from other vessels of this size is that all the bunks are situated fore and aft. All the bunks have three sides of access allowing the operator or crew efficient and easy access to the bed. The fore and aft layout of the bunks will create greater comfort underway. Both lower cabins should be considered VIP cabins as both are roughly the same size and both are equipped with queen bunks. Guests aboard ‘Aquilla Renee’ are really treated to a luxurious experience. Both cabins are lined with the same wood selections and wall coverings as the rest of the vessel. Fixed portlights in each guest cabin allow for very nice natural light and fresh air blowers make for great ventilation.

UTILITY ROOM

The unique layout of ‘Aquilla Renee’ allows for a large utility area on the lower level. This utility room is equipped with full size washer and dryer units and a U-Line front loading freezer. Aft of the laundry room thru a PCM watertight door is access to the engine room.

PILOTHOUSE

Following an African Cherry Wood lined circular staircase upward from the saloon is access to the pilothouse and pilothouse cabin. The wheelhouse dash on ‘Aquilla Renee’ is like that of a cruise ship or a much larger superyacht. The systems and dash layout were tirelessly thought out, with nothing left untouched or left out. Important components are all right there at the operator’s fingertips. The touch screen monitors, and up-to-date systems allow for the safe operation of the vessel. Two comfortable Stidd helm chairs allow the operator and guests to oversee all aspects of the vessel from the wheelhouse. Between the Stidd helm seats is a custom built Italian Charco wood console which is great for storing binoculars and other small navigation equipment. The “U” shaped settee aft of the helm is a wonderful place for guests to congregate. This area is raised up allowing guests to see the dash and outside the forward-facing windows. There is a two-piece Italian Charco wood table for dining. You will find that while underway this is a popular place to be. The wheelhouse is equipped with a captain’s station, where this is a large desk area set up for a computer, printer, file storage and manuals storage.

PILOTHOUSE CABIN

As mentioned earlier the pilothouse cabin has been made larger on ‘Aquilla Renee’. The current owners use this as the master cabin and once onboard you’ll see why. The views are amazing from this level.  The aft bulkhead of the pilothouse was relocated about 18″ aft to accommodate the larger cabin and head.  There is an en-suite head that is larger in size due to the custom layout. The cabin is equipped with a queen bunk and ample storage. Access to the back deck is through a hinged FRP door with full height glass for the best views. On each side of the door are large full-height glass windows as well. This is truly an amazing cabin and great place to enjoy all the future adventures aboard Aquilla Renee.

EXTERIOR

Starting in the cockpit area there is a large built-in FRP settee with storage below. This settee has been rotated 90 degrees from other versions, so it faces aft. The current owners preferred looking out to sea rather than looking towards the aft side of the saloon. The settee is broken into two sections to allow easy in and out from a seated position and it’s equipped with a beautiful fixed high glass teak table, that has custom covers to protect it from the elements. The deck is covered with moulded non-skid which requires no maintenance. There is a control station in the aft starboard corner of the settee, and this is great location to operate the vessel in tight spots. Forward there is a BBQ console with the BBQ and sink under a hinged FRP top, storage below. ‘Aquilla Renee’ is the walk-around version, this means there are walkways on both the port and starboard sides. The port side walkway allows for easy docking on this side and leads to a useful wet locker forward. The starboard side walkway leads to the foredeck and both sides have boarding doors to the dock.

The aft swim step has been extended by 18″ making this a large usable space. This would be a great deck area for dive gear, etc. Access to the hot/cold freshwater shower and the shower power are on the swim step of ‘Aquilla Renee’. The shore power cord is on electric Glendinning reels. The “U” shape rails are great for safety and there is a custom swim step ladder built in. The Besenzoni retractable gangway is located on the port side, this extends from the transom about 13 feet and has up to down movement.

The foredeck is vast and very useable. Currently there is a 15-foot AB tender onboard. There is room for a second on the starboard side. This is launched and retrieved by the Steelhead 2500# telescoping davit. The anchor well is equipped with two Maxwell VWC 4500 hydraulic windlasses with band brakes and chain stoppers. There is 400 feet of 1/2″ galvanized high-test chain on each side. Access to the anchor locker is through two Freeman aluminium watertight deck hatches.

Aft of the foredeck through a robust pantograph hinged door is the Portuguese bridge area. This is a well-protected area and is great for operating the vessel or for getting fresh air while underway. Both the port and starboard sides have control stations. These stations are equipped with engine controls, engine start/stop panels, horn control, thruster controls and rudder follow up levers. Each side of the Portuguese bridge has access doors leading into the pilothouse. These are Dutch FRP doors and are watertight.

Just behind the pilothouse is the aft deck. In the build the aft deck was extended 7 feet which makes for a truly amazing space. This aft deck is an open space and is an ideal location for up to four or five lounge chairs. The two 8-man life rafts are mounted in the side handrails, so they are usable but out of the way.

The flybridge is accessed through a teak wood staircase in the wheelhouse. The flybridge on ‘Aquilla Renee’ is equipped with dual Stidd helm chairs with covers. There is a “U” shaped settee to the starboard side with a high gloss 3-piece teak table. Forward below a sliding FRP cover are the electronics and navigation equipment. This dash can do everything that can be done down below in the wheelhouse. Aft of the flybridge is the sundeck that is equipped with a fresh water jacuzzi mounted in a custom FRP enclosure. This is a great place to relax and take in all the wonderful views. There is a custom stainless steel and teak ladder allowing for easier access to the FRP hardtop.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are several easily accessed machinery spaces on the Nordhavn 76 ‘Aquilla Renee’. Starting forward there is the bow thruster compartment which includes portions of the hydraulic system, the davit motor, bilge pumps, access to tankage and a Seafire fire extinguishing system. Moving aft we have the engine room and lazarette.

We will start in the engine room which is equipped with a John Deere 6135 500hp main engine, a John Deere 4045 140hp wing engine and a Northern Lights 38kw generator. The main engine and wing engine are both equipped with hydraulic PTOs allowing both to control the ABT hydraulic system. ‘Aquilla Renee’ is a full hydraulic vessel, which includes crash pumps, anchor wash pump, 50hp bow thruster, 38hp stern thruster and stabilizers. This is an extremely reliable and robust system for this type of vessel. The single engine layout allows for a stainless-steel work bench with hinged top and a large tool chest mounted below. This allows ample space for the mechanic to work. The main and back-up freshwater pumps, water heater, UV sterilizer and manifold system have all been relocated to the engine room which makes all these components much easier to access and monitor. Being second time Nordhavn owners, the sellers of ‘Aquilla Renee’ have used what they have learned from their previous Nordhavn to really dial in the machinery spaces. The living spaces are protected from the machinery spaces by watertight bulkheads and watertight doors. All machinery spaces are equipped with Seafire auto/manual fire extinguisher systems. These areas have two exits as well for an extra level of safety.

Aft of the engine room there is the lazarette. This space is accessible through a watertight door in the engine room or through the two deck hatches in the cockpit. The lazarette on ‘Aquilla Renee’ houses an additional Northern Lights 38kw generator. It also houses many other electrical components such as all the batteries and battery switchgear, Victron inverters and Victron battery chargers as well as the 25Kva ASEA shore power converter. The ASEA shore power converter will allow the vessel to plug into shore power in 50hz environments which truly allows for Aquilla Renee to cruise anywhere in the world. The tempered water CruisAir HVAC system is located in this area and is quite easy to access. The lazarette is a great please for storage too, and one can fit anything from folding bikes, golf clubs to many bins of spare parts, and the deck hatches really allow for easy access to this area with larger items.

The Nordhavn 76 ‘Aquilla Renee’ is ready for new adventures. The current owner has maintained the vessel with an open cheque book. Nothing has been overlooked, and redundancy and safety have played a key role in the design of ‘Aquilla Renee’. This vessel is truly ready to go anywhere in the world and has already proven herself with a trans-Atlantic crossing.
