DESCRIPTION

Boat Overview

Under her previous ownership, Thindra (formerly known as Bolero) experienced a variety of uses. This included cruising with only her owners aboard, some longer passages (this truly is a yacht that may be sailed two-handed), and cruising with a full crew of guests and friends. Additionally, she participated in international regattas in true “Swan style” as a race boat.

In October 2008, she was sold to the current owner. From 2008 to May 2012, Thindra was managed by a full-time Swedish skipper with a background in boat building at Baltic Yachts in Finland. During summer 2009, Thindra was delivered to OY Yxpila Boat Yard in Kokkola, Finland, where a major refit was conducted. Yxpila Boat Yard is an authorized service center for Nautor’s Swan. Some of the work undertaken during this refit includes:

  • New paint of hull and mast
  • Removal and service of generator
  • Service of all winches
  • New engine mounts
  • New electric toilets
  • New forepeak with a double bed
  • New Raymarine electronics including radar
  • New spreader light
  • And much more.

In May 2012, Thindra moved to Sopromar shipyard in Lagos, Portugal, where she was kept on dry land until May 2014 when a comprehensive refit and update began. Some of the work included:

  • New Yanmar engine 160 hp
  • New seacocks
  • New sea pumps
  • New charger/inverter
  • New standing rigging including a Reckmann electric furling
  • SSB radio
  • And much more.

During 2014 and 2015, work commenced to have Thindra registered for commercial charter according to MCA Cat 2 and Cat 0, which involved a comprehensive upgrade in various safety features.

As of 2018, Thindra is located in Antigua, and her owner is considering sailing her to Europe at the end of the year. She remains for sale, and her price reflects the need for some updates before embarking on a long journey.

Hull And Deck Construction

The hull was painted in 2009 with Awlgrip white. The topsides have been painted with the same color Awlgrip again, including Swan style double thin stripes on the coaming and a “clear gloss” coat. The hull underwent slurry blasting, five coats of epoxy primer, and two coats of antifouling in 2014. The cockpit area and steering pedestal were also painted white in 2009. The deck is teak laid, new and made in New Zealand by Dickson’s Marine in the original Swan style. The aft entrance from the cockpit leads to the aft cabin (from new). Antifouling Micron Extra and polish were applied in 2015. The deck is constructed in sandwich GRP.

Winches

All winches are by Lewmar, including:

  • 2 x 77 ST - 3 speed primaries
  • 2 x 55 ST - electric secondary sheet winches (2 speed when manual)
  • 1 x 54 ST – electric for main sheet in aft cockpit
  • 2 x 56 ST - electric - halyards (on deck)
  • 2 x 55 ST - 3 speed - halyards
  • 2 x 52 2 speed - halyard (on deck)
Deck Equipment
  • Lofrans Falkon 1500 w electric windlass with foot switch, recessed in bow locker
  • 110 lb Bruce anchor (on bow roller) with approx. 80m chain, galvanized in 2008
  • 75 lb CQR anchor
  • Fisherman anchor
  • Fortress aluminium anchor
  • Anchor warp
  • Gate in pushpit and in rails port and starboard
  • Outboard bracket
  • Two stainless steel poles at transom for radar scanner
  • GPS and Inmarsat C aerials
  • Stainless steel Dorade vents

Notes:

  • All winches were serviced, and for the electric (4) winches, the switches were replaced in 2009.
  • Anchor winch fully serviced in 2009 and 2014.
  • Service has been made continuously by Sopromar shipyard in Lagos each year since 2010.
  • All new Harken blocks in 2009.
  • New Goiot opening forward hatch 1.10m (to replace original sliding hatch).
  • New Perspex in four other Goiot deck hatches, 2004.
  • New toughened glass in all coaming side windows, 2004 (in New Zealand).

Accommodations

Standard Swan 59 layout (see plan) but with:

  • New focsle with a double berth built in 2009 by Yxpila Boat Yard, large overhead hatch, stowage under berth, alloy bars for lines. Steps on aft bulkhead up to deck. From the focsle, a door leads aft to the port guest cabin, and there is also a door across into the one forward guest toilet/shower area located to starboard forward of the starboard cabin – to which it has an adjoining door.
  • Note: In this yacht, in place of a head area on the port side forward (which is fitted in some other Swan 59/61), there is a bank of four good lockers, greatly enhancing and enlarging the focsle area and general storage.
  • Guest cabin to port with two single berths (upper berth of Pullman type)
  • Starboard guest cabin with either two single berths (upper and lower) or an upper double berth
  • Each guest cabin has a good hanging locker and a further locker forward.
  • Aft cabin with centre-line double berth, two seats, very generous storage plus an en suite toilet area and a separate full shower cubicle. The aft cabin also has an extra aft companionway to the aft cockpit (the ladder may be removed and stowed).

Note: The interior was completely varnished by Sopromar shipyard in 2014. Since then, further work has been done whenever indicated necessary, and the interior woodwork is in top shape. New leather upholstery in the saloon was added in 2009. A new white Corian galley top was fitted in 2004. New spring mattresses for the aft cabin bed were added in 2003. New drawers in the saloon/galley area were installed in 2009 by Yxpila Boat Yard. Stainless steel cabin reading lights are provided for all the beds. New LED roof lights in all cabins were added in 2015. Electric toilets x 2 with separate waste tanks. Mixer faucet at the galley and shower head aft, new in 2006.
