Remarks :

The Coronet Elvstrom 38 was built by Botved Boats of Denmark to a Paul Elvstrom design. Paul Elvstrom, for those unfamiliar, was a sailing "God" who dominated Olympic Sailing winning 4 medals and won an unprecedented 13 world titles. He just loved sailing, and more importantly he loved sailing in the North Sea and its demanding conditions. One of his numerous designs was the this boat, aimed at the yachtsman who wanted to explore the northern climes in a yacht built for stability, comfort and safety without compromising on performance. She is no slug and on a broad reach will eat the wind out of so called lighter and faster yachts. Although not as nimble "round the cans"she is very maneuverable and can be handled short handed.

She has been in her present ownership since the mid 90's and has been maintained to a high standard. The engine has been replaced, the rigging upgraded, new upholstery, new oven and various bespoke additions such as a sliding roof hatch adding protection and comfort to the cockpit.

If you are looking for a stable, well built, safe, blue water cruiser for North Sea sailing, then look no further. The discerning yachts person will immediately fall in love with her looks and design whilst being impressed by her build quality and fit out. She is truly a "little ship" and she is ready for new adventures. Are you?

Accommodation :
Accommodation

The accommodation is spread over two defined areas. Due to her central cockpit she has a large aft cabin. Here you with find two large berths which with the addition of an infill cushion makes a huge double.  The cabin is bright due to the numerous port lights built into the aft deck. These are fitted with curtains for privacy. The hull is lined with padded cushions for increased comfort. There is storage built into the hull and beneath the berths. There is also access to the steering quadrant and an emergency tiller. Lockable privacy door with hatch.

The main saloon has full standing headroom and is entered from the port side of the cockpit. One step down and immediately to port is the chart table/navigation area with switch panel, chart reading light and VHF. Aft is a large pilot/quarter berth whose forward section doubles as a chart table seat.

Immediately forward and staying on the port side is the linear galley. Here is a gas fuelled, gimballed, Taylors stove with 2-burner hob, hot plate, grill and oven.  Stainless Steel sink with pressurised hot and cold water. Storage units below the work tops and mounted into the hull for crockery and provisions. The fridge is built into the forward bulkhead and has an ice compartment. As well as the conventional door there is an additional smaller opening that allows access without letting out all the cold air. Ingenious. The fresh water faucet at the galley is fitted with a purifying filter to sweeten the water wherever you happen to be cruising.

Opposite the galley is the huge seating/dining area. You can sit eight adults round this table with ease. Storage below and along the hull. Eberspacher programmable heating control. The table drops to convert this to a large double berth.

There is a corridor between the saloon and the forward cabin. To port is two hanging wardrobes and opposite is the heads. The heads has a moulded sink unit with pull out shower head and sump pump out. Marine toilet with manual pump. Storage units with sliding doors.

Fore cabin with V-berth. Infill cushion converts berth to a double. Storage below berths. Access to bow thruster motor.

All cabins fitted with 12V lighting. Fabrics and interior joinery in good order. Carpets for additional comfort.

Mechanical :
Construction

Sturdily built GRP Motor Sailer with GRP/Balsa hull and deck, fin keel with lead ballast and a skeg hung rudder. The boat was built in 1978 by Botved Boats of Denmark to a Paul Elvstrom design. Her balsa core hull makes her light and insulated whiilst her lead ballast keel makes her stable. The under water areas were epoxy treated in by Coates marine of Whitby in 1997. This was completed as a preventative measure due to the hulls age.The hull has been antifouled and her topsides polished between July and August 2020 and is ready to go.

What makes the Coronet unique and what you wouldn't see if she was afloat is her "bulbous bow". This is not a new concept in boating by any means and is used on larger ships to reduce drag and reduce fuel consumption. The application in this instance is to modify the waves generated by the vessels hull as it travels through the water, which flattens the resultant wave pattern along the hull in turn increasing hull speed and reduced pitching. Clever stuff indeed.

The topsides are in exceptional condition with a deep shine to her gelcoat. The bow has a large stainless steel protection plate to prevent damage when anchoring. The decks are moulded in non slip for increased grip. The raised coamings round the deck minimises water onto the deck but anything that does come inboard is easily dealt with by the scuppers. Forward of the wheelhouse is the coachroof. This is fitted with stainless steel grab rails. In the bow is the anchor locker with lid. Lofrans windlass with seperate warp and chain gypsies. stainless steel bow rail connected to stainless steel stanchions and double set of guard wires.

Raised aft deck with teak topped stainless steel guardrails. Here you will find the wind generator and the liferaft storage. The central cockpit is fitted with a half "dog house". The forward part has three wind screens each fitted with windscreen wipers. the side sections are fitted with large perspex windows which combined give the helmsman and crew an uninterrupted vista of what is going on around them. This boat has had a clever modification however, and the canvas roof panel has been replaced a solid grp roof hatch. This is fitted on runners so can be slid forward allowing light and air into the cockpit. The sides and rear are canvas which unzip and roll up out of the way. The cockpit is large, self draining and is fitted with wheel steering on a binnacle. Comfortable bespoke cushions make this a very pleasant place to sit.

Engines & Electrics

The yacht was re-engined in 2009 when the original Volvo was replaced by a Beta 60 inboard diesel. This 58hp unit offer economy and reliability and will push the hull along at 7 knots without any problems. Engine start panel mounted in cockpit with rev counter and digital hour meter. The engine has completed just shy of 120 hours. Barely run in.

When the engine was installed, the engine bay was stripped and painted. New engine mounts, new propeller shaft and new three bladed propeller. She has two fuel tanks which can be operated independently of each other. They are made from stainless steel and were completely cleaned out with new access/inspection panels fitted.

Bank of 3X12V heavy duty batteries provide engine start and domestic power. These are and recharged via the alternator, Victron battery charger or the Rutland wind generator. The boat can be completely self sufficient for power when cruising in Northern climes.

Sails and Rigging

This vessel is equally at home under sail, engine or both. Her light hull, powerful rig makes her a delight to handle in the faintest of breezes. She is designed for heavy weather though and her over engineered deck fittings and chain plates provide a sense of security. all the chain plates have been strengthened by the addition of aluminium plate bars which spreads the load. The stainless steel rigging is large diameter and was replaced along with the mast in 2008/2009.

All the winches are self tailing, 2-speed Andersons and in excellent condition. The lines are led aft to the cockpit and the boat can be easily sailed short handed. The mainsheet track is mounted on the aft deck within easy reach of the helm. This is a double track with ball bearing cars.  All the running rigging is braid on braid or dyneema and in good condition. The back stay is fitted can act as an emergency VHF aerial should you lose the mast head mounted one. There is an inner forestay with deck fitting for flying an inner jib or storm canvas. The yacht is rigged for a spinnaker with track mounted to front of mast. Quick release spinnaker pole fitting.

Sails include mainsail fitted with car slides, Hood heavy weather blade, roller furling genoa, inner jib, storm sail and spinnaker.
