1961 Cheverton Caravel Mk II, built of strip-planked African mahogany and with 1989 Vetus 10hp inboard diesel engine. 'Wanda' is a charming classic vessel, with her unique sloping coachroof from a raised doghouse. She is a faithful family cruiser, offering an affordable way for a family to enjoy boat ownership and can be easily maintained with a bit of time and practical know-how. Wanda enjoys relaxed sailing and pottering, watching the sunsets with a glass of wine, but she's also game for longer trips, and has been sailed from Suffolk to Brighton, and then Brighton to the Solent in her current ownership. Engine regularly serviced, prop shaft and prop replaced in the last 4 years and plenty of other maintenance carried out in 2022. Available to view by appointment at Birdham Pool Marina.

Hull And Deck

  • Built using the strip plank edge-on-edge method. Kiln dried African mahogany was used with a maximum moisture content of 13%. The planks were glued and edge nailed through two and into the third with galvanised nails. Frames were laminated African mahogany, again glued with Resorcinol glue - the best available at the time. After fairing up the hulls were coated with Epoxy paint inside and out, to preserve the watertight integrity, before final painting (source: cheverton.org.uk)
