DESCRIPTION

Blue Magic was the last of the Swan 65’s built and was delivered in December 1989.

She was built as CHUI SIMBA II under the careful supervision of a surveyor for an experienced owner.

Originally, she was built as a “two-cabin” layout (one large cabin forward of saloon, plus a focsle). In winter 1996 she was returned to the Nautor yard and the interior rebuilt to provide a four-cabin plan (much as she is today). The aft cabin has since been modified again to provide a single bed on the starboard side

COMMENTS AND HISTORY
Blue Magic was the last of the Swan 65’s built and was delivered in December 1989.
She was built as CHUI SIMBA II under the careful supervision of a surveyor for an experienced owner.
Originally, she was built as a “two-cabin” layout (one large cabin forward of saloon, plus a focsle). In winter 1996 she was returned to the Nautor yard and the interior rebuilt to provide a four-cabin plan (much as she is today). The aft cabin has since been modified again to provide a single bed on the starboard side (see pictures and plan).

The Swan 65 first gained notoriety during the first Whitbread Round the World Race inwhere hull number three ‘Sayula II’ took overall victory. This success was further proven in theedition when Swan 65’s took three of the top five positions overall.

Now, many years later, these legendary yachts have become an iconic symbol of elegance. Blue Magic is the culmination of nearly two decades of experience from the millions of ocean miles sailed by these magnificent yachts. She herself took part in the Expo ’98 Round the World Rally (as Fazer Blue Magic) – and after 19 legs she was the overall winner of the event, also overall winner of the Racing Division, winner of her class and winner of the Finnair Challenge (Cape Town to Lisbon)! This is a grand testament not only to her performance but the reliability of this fine yacht sailing in such conditions.

Following that event, the yacht was sold and was based in Sweden and Finland. She enjoyed short summer sailing and long winters stored ashore inside. The vessel had continual high-level maintenance and many upgrades. In the yearsshe saw very light sailing use (6 weeks summer 2010; then in the shed through winter and until spring 2012; Summers 2012 and 2013 she did short trips only. From autumn 2013 she stayed in the shed until spring 2017!)

Main works in that period include: -
• New Reckmann staysail furler and staysail, 2017;
• New rigging, 2011;
• New Yanmar main engine in 2010;
• New Westerbeke generator in 2007-8;
• New Sidepower bow thruster, 2008-9;
• New Harken winches – 2008-9;
• New Harken hydraulic power-pack;
• Reckmann RF90 hydraulic furler, 2008-9;
• Rewiring of yacht and new electrical panel in 2008-9;
• New navigation and sailing instruments - 2008
• New teak deck in 2003-4.

She came out of the shed in summer 2017, was recommissioned and the owner sailed her from Stockholm to Amsterdam, Gibraltar, Mallorca, Lavrion (Gr) and arrived in November in Marmaris.

Winter 2017-18: a long list of maintenance items were attended to and a new winter / summer cover made, a new sprayhood, and cover for the new liferaft. The yacht remained afloat, under her cover and was not sailed until end of September 2018. The sailing season 2018 was short and local sailing only.

After the sailing trip she was put on the hard for a few weeks for service works - overhaul of the underwater ship, propeller, bowthruster, small repairs of the blue paint and the golden cove lines. Engine and generator serviced. During the winter she was again stored afloat under her canvas cover.

In 2019 she has been sailed one month in April. Her owners plan some further use in June and again September. Of course, meanwhile for the whole summer she will be under the summer-cover to protect the teak decks.
