Scanmar 33  -  1984  -  £26,950

A well respected, Swedish cruiser-racer design of the 1980's with a keel-stepped 7/8th fractional rig (this one with a replacement mast fitted in 2006), skeg supported rudder, generous T-shaped cockpit, wheel steering and an innovative general plan that will accommodate larger crew numbers than many of her similar-sized competitors.

'Rumpleteazer' has started in three Fastnet races (completing two of them) in the current ownership and is still in full commission and ready to be sailed (either competitively or efficiently fast cruised), with numerous updates, replacements having been carried out over the years by the current owner.

With only three ownerships from new, it seems that 'Rumpleteazer' has always been proudly owned and she is presented in a clean and fully serviceable condition.

Accommodation

The vessel is fitted with a 'Trumatic' warm-air heating system with thermostatic control at the chart table; 13AAC sockets to the galley and aft cabin and a JVC entertainment CD/radio mounted in the main saloon.

For'cabin: Two berths, with the port berth's head slightly wider and a rectangular footwell and in-filling cushion over to provide a generous and relatively long and spacious V-shaped berth for two. Light and ventilation via a forward-opening overhead hatch and fixed ventilator. Hanging locker and deep fiddle hull side shelving. The plywood support panels were originally hinged (now unfastened) to offer moulded sail bins beneath the aft ends of the berths, abaft the water tank.

Main Saloon:  A substantial, un-leafed table is set within U-shaped seating to port and this table may be lowered to offer a double berth when required, while a single settee berth is fitted to starboard, with the main table being supplemented by means of an independent, double-pedestal legged table that may be mounted in the cockpit too. A small centre-line hatch above the table lets additional light and ventilation to this main cabin.

Navigation Area:  A relatively large chart table is mounted toward the aft end of the starboard settee berth, with radar and radios fitted outboard of the navigator's left shoulder and two independent chart plotters fitted to a bulkhead above the chart table.

Heads Compartment:  Located just aft of amidships and to starboard of the companionway, access to the heads is as convenient as could be wished for and once in the compartment the volume of space is relatively generous, with a Jabsco manual toilet mounted outboard and inset handbasin within a locker unit to the aft bulkhead. Opening coachroof window and fixed overhead vent for ventilation.

Galley: This takes a primarily L-shaped form to port of the companionway and engine box, however there is also a pull-out work surface/cutting block that provides sensible additional working surface area. Twin stainless steel sinks are fitted within the forward peninsular, with a stainless steel lined, refrigerated and top accessed chiller box outboard of the sinks. Freshwater is foot pumped. The original cooker has been replaced by a good quality, Taylors 043 Gas cooker fitted with a grill as well as the hob's two burners and an oven. Stowage abounds, with two cutlery/utensil drawers and two deep staples drawers, plus deep crockery and closed stowage beneath the side deck. This is a galley that can provide for a crew of six comfortably. A 220-240V AC, 13 amp socket is fitted in this area.

Aft Cabin:  Accessed via the galley area a doorway with double hinged door to port of the companionway, this space is notable for the generous size of centre-line berth, each side of which enjoys good sitting headroom beneath the cockpit seating. The cabin extends across the full beam of the boat beneath the cockpit well and is lit by single hull ports to either topsides. A half-height hanging locker is provided to either side, in each of the forward corners of the cabin. Ventilation and means of emergency egress from the cabin are offered by a 'cockpit locker'-style hatch above the starboard side of the berth and a Lewmar opening portlight on the centre-line of the cockpit's footwell lends light and ventilation.

Mechanical And Electrical Systems

Fitted with a freshwater-cooled Volvo Penta 2003 diesel, rated at approx. 28BHP, driving a two bladed folding propeller through a Volvo 'Saildrive' transmission unit. The latter having been a new replacement that was fitted in 2013, along with it's associated sealing gaiter.

Electrical

Twin battery banks, comprising of 1 x 100 A/hr lead acid battery (2011) for engine cranking and 2 x 85 A/hr lead acid batteries (2011), both charged by engine-driven alternator.

A 9-way distribution and fuse panel is fitted alongside the chart table, together with a 12V DC outlet socket.

Internal lighting is, in the main provided by individual bulkhead-mounted reading lights, fitted with Halogen bulbs. A relatively large flourescent lamp is fitted within the main saloon, on the forward bulkhead.

220-240V AC shore support system, with consumer unit and RCD protection.

Tankage

Fuel:  Stainless steel tank, located on the centre-line, beneath the aft cabin's berth with maximum capacity 39 litres.

Freshwater:  Polyethylene tank with 115 litre capacity, fitted beneath the forward end of the forward berth.

Holding Tank:  Stainless steel, with 65 litre capacity, located toward the aft end of the hanging locker.

Sails And Spars

Fitted with a new keel-stepped Sparcraft mast in 2006 (and subsequently fitted with a trysail track in 2007), the sail plan is of a 7/8th rig with a twin-grooved furling system fitted to the forestay. The lower shrouds date from 2013 and the cap shrouds new in 2019. The single backstay is fitted with a mechanical adjuster.

Braid on braid polyester running rigging (in the main) dating from 2006, but with Dyneema main halyard (2015).

Telescopic spinnaker pole, with Dyneema guys and sheets.

Stainless steel rod kicker to support the main boom.
