A refurbished attractive cruiser for inland waterways
Behind every boat lies a story and Carina is no exception to the rule. Moored in Bristol there is a possibility for a new owner to take over the coveted mooring if required. Carina feels spacious on board while narrow enough to cruise the canals.
She was built by a private individual called Dick Saltmer in the early 1950s using drawing prepared by Sylvia Craft from Cowes in the Isle of Wight. The attached letter from his son describes the build and his father’s interest in boats.
The vendor is a skilled carpenter by trade and he bought Carina with a view to honing his boatbuilding skills. He has made a lovely job of restoring the boat and sells her with new upholstery, new instrumentation, new dash, new headlinings, all the electrics replaced, bilge pump, removable canopy and two new batteries. There is an Origo 3000 cooker as well as a Thetford toilet on board. Mark proudly tells me that he stripped the boat back to bare wood before applying 12 coats of Le Tonkinois varnish under the watchful eye of a resident boatbuilder working nearby. He sent away all the fittings for rechroming so Carina is truly “like new”.
The actual build of the boat is of mahogany on oak with teak decking. The engine is a Mercury 20hp and the hull shape would suit even fairly shallow waters with a draft of 0.8 metres.
There is a new BSS certificate from mid November of 2019 expiring in 2023.
