A rare opportunity to get into a Capps 53 Custom Sportfish. "Bent Tent" roams the canyons off Ocean City, MD in the summer and the Chesapeake Bay in the spring and fall. Powered by CAT 3406 diesels at 800hp she's got a smooth, efficient cruise at 1850rpms and tops out over 30 knots. Nicely equipped inside with two staterooms, 2 heads and a roomy, comfortable salon. Teak and holly flooring in the galley and both heads, corian countertops and trim and nicely varnished cabinetry throughout. The present owner has done a nice job with maintenance and upgrades both inside and out. You've seen her on the tournament leaderboards throughout the mid-Atlantic, now take the time to see her for yourself. She may be the biggest 53 Custom Carolina boat you ever step aboard. More photos coming soon.
Some of the notable upgrades include; new turbos and elbows in 2018, windows removed, re-bed, caulked and sealed in the 2018/2019 offseason. New corian trim installed in the salon along all three windows. New holding tank and plumbing in the 2020/2021 offseason. New style CAT heat exchangers/aftercoolers installed 2021 along with all new batteries (6), a new generator back end, a new ICOM IC-M506 and an additional new Garmin GPSmap 7610. She also had the cockpit/bridge overhang redone in the 2020/2021 offseason.
Capps Boatworks builds custom sportfishing boats in Virginia Beach, VA. Per the Capps Boatworks website: Nelva Capps grew up on the coast of North Carolina and has been around boats and boat building for as long as he can remember. He played around the keels of the boats his grandfather built in his backyard.
Nelva worked as a mate when he was only 12 and he built his first boat in 1982 at the age of 27 for the shallow but choppy Carolina sounds. He gave the 21-foot craft a flat stern with a shallow draft but a sharp wave-eating bow with a massive Carolina flare to keep the spray at bay. Today, he builds boats between 25 and 60 feet in Virginia Beach.
