A spacious boat in great condition - ideal for entertaining
A rare opportunity to purchase a Chris Craft Sportsman, built as the flagship of the Utility fleet in the late thirties and more recently rebuilt in Devon and Hampshire. Sans Peur is featured in a Sept 2016 piece in Classic Boat. Please call us to arrange a viewing.
With a length of 24ft and a beam of 7ft 6ins this magnificent mahogany craft from the famous US builder is reputed to have been purchased by the Duke of Sutherland in 1940 as a launch for his racing yacht. Subsequently the boat was purchased from a second owner who contracted Robin East Boatbuilders in Devon to rebuild the boat to concourse condition. All missing fittings were sourced from the US including a reconditioned original spec engine which was fitted by Hillyards.
In winter 2016 the caring owner had all the caulking, chrome and varnishing re-done. He tells me that the upholstery and bilges have been cleaned to the point where you could eat your dinner off them. The ventilation hoses have been replaced so she is now ready for sale in tip top form.
A bespoke trailer, scatter cushions and full length cover are available as part of the purchase. The power rating for the recon engine is approx 130 h.p. A smaller propellor has been fitted for good control at low speed on the Thames. The Invoice from ‘Classic Boat and Motor’ in America describes the engine as”Rebuilt JXLDML (Chris Craft “ML”) complete engine. New parts; Pistons, rings, main bearings, rod bearings. Rebuilt parts; Carburetor, fuel pump, exh manifold, 6 volt generator. Used parts: 6 volt coil, distributor, 6 volt starter. Rewire 6 volt generator to 12 volt, IAY4009 Pertronix Ignition Kit.
The Chris-Craft Sans Peur is 24 feet long that boasts a 7.5 feet beam
