Accomodation

The Westerly Tiger offers six berths in two cabins. The forward cabin has two single berths in the forward cabin and so the port side is slightly shorter and is not ideal for a full sized adult. The starboard side is full adult size. The main cabin can sleep four persons, by way of the double berth and two rear quarter berths. In practice due to the fact that luggage needs to go somewhere, the starboard quarter berth tends to be storage rather than a sleeping berth. Heads with sea toilet. Galley to port in saloon and fitted with a two-ring gas hob. Sink and Fridge the compressor fitted in starboard cabin locker and cooling plate fed into the cold box. The saloon is light and airy. The dining area will seat a full crew and is local to the galley for ease of catering and entertaining. It should be noted that the dining area will convert into a double berth if required. Webasto diesel heater with two warm air outlets, one in each cabin, two years old.

Sails and Spars

Masthead rigged sloop. Anodised aluminium mast and boom. Stainless steel standing rigging. Terylene running rigging. Roller reefing mainsail. Furling headsail (Plastimo). Symmetrical spinnaker in yellow. Full length spinnaker snuffer. When not in use, spinnaker pole kept mounted vertically to front of mast.

1 x Mainsail (Old)

1 x Foresail (Old)

1 x Spinnaker (Old)

Winches

Mechanical Systems

Located behind the companionway, Volvo two-cylinder 10hp diesel engine (fitted 2002). 10 hours since the last rebuild 2019, valves, bearings, pistons. Electric start. Seawater cooled. Shaft drive to three bladed propeller. Single lever control. Last out of water maintenance winter 2018.

Electrical Systems

2 x 12-volt batteries 1 x 12-volt 85Ah domestic (2018), 1 x 12-volt 85Ah engine (2015) charging from the engine alternator, Solar panel charges the starter battery, Wind generator charges the leisure battery including the fridge circuit. Engine alternator has a three way charging splitter but only two are currently used (I had the intention to fit an additional forward battery and anchor windlass system). There is a old shore power three way battery charger and on board power supply unit installed. The boat inventory includes a 25 metre shore power cable.

Owners Comments

My family have owned the boat 28 years, with 18 of those myself as sole owner. Westerly built the boat with a pair of winches at the mast and all activity had to be conducted there. I have converted all the running rigging (except foresail halyard) to be led back to the cockpit. Similarly, although it was originally fitted with mainsail boom roller reefing, because of the sail stacker fitted, this can't be used and instead is now fitted with single line reefing again fed back to the cockpit.

History and Construction

Built in 1973 by Westerly Yachts to a design by John Butler. White painted GRP hull. Teak rubbing strake. White GRP superstructure with grey painted non-slip to deck. Fin keel. Spade hung rudder. Tiller steering. Aft self-draining cockpit.
