DESCRIPTION

Konsort, Mk II (Twin keeled£22,950 **NEW LISTING**
A very nicely presented, twin keeled example of the very popular Westerly Konsort, well maintained and extensively equipped with many recent upgrades. Designed by Laurent Giles, built by Westerly Yachts Ltd. in 1984, 'Krisara' with her yard number of D392, is an approx. mid-sequence example of the twin-keeled version of the ever-so-popular Konsort. The under water surfaces have been epoxy coated.

Built by the 'phoenix' company that, from 1981, was seeking to demonstrate their determination to offer something better than the product of the previous company by use of teak veneered plywood rather than the Sapele of the earlier boats, a generous and fixed table capable of accommodating six diners and - very significantly in the case of the twin keeled boats - fitted with the foam-formed and integrally moulded GRP lateral stiffeners in the keel attachment areas.

Krisara's keel areas are 'as dry as a bone', the teak veneers in good order and such features have been enhanced by the attention to lining in all accommodation areas, new upholstery (with the exception of the quarter berth cushion), replacement of the original engine with a 24hp Bukh, replacement of the standing rigging (2008), together with the fitting of behind-mast reefing for the mainsail and the replacement of the main working sails (2012). All this in addition to the replacement of the original instrumentation, together with the fitting of self-tailing winches at same time.

Be quick - early viewing is seriously recommended!

Accommodation

Six berths in two cabins with replaced upholstery (both fabric and foam) in the main, with the exception of the quarter berth cushion that the current owners have kept at home, while using the quarter berth for storage of bulk items. The original cushion has been returned to the boat. The headlinings throughout were dealt with in the previous ownership, with the foam on the headboards having been removed, simply leaving hard finished vinyl headboards overhead and the main saloon's under side deck areas cleared of foam and then held back in place by plywood with overhead finishing panels, above the side shelves.

An Eberspacher D1L, diesel-fired hot air heater is fitted with outlets in the main saloon and forward cabin.

An entertainment radio/CD player with twin speakers in the main saloon is fitted at the chart table.

Forecabin with generous vee berths and an infilling cushion, the for'cabin of a Konsort is positively 'palatial' - bigger then even a Westerly 33/Discus. Deep side shelving and under berth lockers, with a large hanging locker, with two additional shelves over, located opposite the heads compartment. An overhead hatch (lens has not been replaced and is crazed) combines nicely with opening portlights fitted in the coachroof sides for a light and well ventilated space.

Heads compartment: with Lavac toilet, pull-out wash basin and foot pumped cold water. Under-deck closed locker. 'Ventilite' over, together with individual opening portlight.

Saloon: Parallel settee berths to port and starboard; the port side's settee does not now extend to a double, but in common with the starboard side's berth retains its leeboard, and the access to the lockers beneath the cushion is enhanced. A centre-line double-leafed table accommodates up to six diners comfortably. The quarter-berth is generous and, as explained above, the current owners have used it primarily for large-item storage, but the cushion has been returned on board.

Chart table:with chart stowage within and deep fiddled hull-side shelving for almanacs, tidal stream atlases etc.outboard of the quarter berth. The original swinging-arm echosounder has been retained alongside, together with the Navtex and the VHF base station radio.

'L' shaped galley: with stainless steel sink with foot-pumped pump for the freshwater supply, refrigerated top-opening coolbox with a Frigomatic refrigeration unit, and an updated stove with two burner hob, oven and grill (Plastimo Neptune 2000).

Mechanical And Electrical Systems

The original, 20HP Bukh was replaced in 2002 with a Bukh DV24ME (24HP) engine. Hours run to date by the current engine are - to all intents and purposes - 1900 hrs.

The engine drives a two-bladed 'Flexofold' propeller (reported by the current owner to have been the 'best investment' he's made for the boat) and the engine/propeller combination reportedly achieves hull speed comfortably at 2000 revs. in flat water.

A replacement, stainless steel fuel tank was fitted in 2011. A dripless, knife-edge seal by Volvo Penta is fitted at the inboard end of the sterntube.

A rope cutter by Ambassador Marine is fitted ahead of the propeller.

Upon the current owners' purchase of the boat in 2012, and upon the surveyor's recommendations, a waterlock was fitted within the exhaust system; the engine cooling water system was upgraded, with a new inlet valve, hose and strainer. A new exhaust elbow was fitted too.

Electrical Systems

Two 110 A/Hr lead acid batteries form the 'Domestic & Services' battery bank, located in dedicated containment under the forward end of the quarter berth. These batteries were new in 2018. A larger - commercial truck - heavy duty battery (by Varta) for engine cranking has been located to the starboard side of the engine space, beneath the galley's storage drawers. This battery is of unknown age.

Battery charging is by engine driven alternator and 60W PV [solar] panel that is mounted on the stainless steel gantry aft of the cockpit plus a 240V AC 20 Amp battery charger when connected to shore support. A wind-powered generator has, in the past, been mounted on this same gantry, but was removed to avoid it's noise in operation. The generator will be included in the vessel's inventory of equipment.

The original circuit breaker panel has been re-fitted and supplemented with an additional distribution panel for specific nav. instruments, with additional circuit breakers also fitted in a dedicated panel alongside the 'Domestic & Services' battery bank.

A 240 AC ring main, with quality cable hook-up is also fitted for those occasions when the boat visits a marina.

Sails And Spars

Bermudan, masthead sloop rig on Selden spars (badged as by Kemp Masts), with a Furlex S200 reefing system fitted on the forestay (2012). The rest of the standing rigging had already been renewed in 2008. Halyards and reefing lines are led aft, to two banks of stoppers and two single-speed winches at the aft end of the coach roof - the starboard one of which is a self-tailing (30ST) replacement by Lewmar, with which to operate the mainsail's reefing system.

SAILS

  • A replacement, furling mainsail (2012) is by Crusader Sails.
  • The radial-cut, 135% roller reefing genoa, also by Crusader Sails dates from 2012 too.
  • The previous roller reefing genoa by Ratsey and Lapthorne (145%) remains serviceable and has had it's luff tape replaced to enable it to be hoisted on the newer Furlex extrusion.
  • The original No.1 Jib (little used) remains on board, with it's original hanks having been replaced with a bolt rope to enable its use on the Furlex roller reefing system if required.

Navigation Instrumentation & Equipment

  • Garmin GPS 556s together with a sonar transducer (giving depth of water) fitted 2012. This unit is integrated with the VHF radio to be able to display AIS targets and information on the chart display.
  • Earlier Seafarer 900, 'swinging arm' echo-sounder, with shallow and deep alarms retained as a 'back-up'.
  • Garmin GWS wind instrumentanemometer's cups currently in need of replacement - for wind speed and direction.
  • Garmin GMI10, multi-function display, giving windspeed, direction, barometer and water temperature displays.
  • Fluxgate compass with 'Clipper' digital read-out at aft end of cockpit.
  • Note: the original Sumlog instrument, seen in some pictures of the cockpit, is redundant, with its impeller removed and the hole through the hull made good. The instrument's display simply fills the original, relatively large hole in the deck moulding.
  • Raymarine ST2000+ autopilot.
  • Bulkhead-mounted clock and barometer.

Deck Equipment

  • Lofrans 'Royale' manual windlass.
  • 25 kg plough anchor.
  • Lewmar ST40 self-tailing winches for the headsail sheets.
  • Lewmar ST30 self-tailing winch to handle the mainsail furling controls
  • Barlow 23 with rubber 'Gripper' to handle the headsail reefing system's pennant.
  • Folding sprayhood, with grab handle to trailing edge of its frame.
  • Pair of named dodgers.
  • Set of cockpit cushions.
  • Good quality, extendable tiller extension.
  • Protective cover to protect tiller.
  • Transom-mounted swimming/boarding ladder.
  • Stainless steel gantry providing accessible mounting point for various antennae, and to support the 60W 'Solar' panel. This frame also provides a mounting point for a pulley to be able to hoist an outboard engine onto it's stowage pad and another with which to lift the bow of an inflatable dinghy (the latter not included in the sale's inventory).
  • Pushpit-mounted outboard engine stowage pad.
  • 1 off 4.5kg 'Calor' butane cannister.

Safety Equipment

  • Standard Horizon GX210 DSC and GMDSS capable radio with AIS display.
  • RAM3 remote VHF station connected to the base station radio for ease of communication in the cockpit.
  • Nasa Navtex for weather reports and safety announcements.
  • 2 off dry powder fire extinguishers.
  • 1 off horse-shoe lifebuoy.
  • 1 off Danbuoy.
  • Gillie Firth mast-mounted radar reflector.
  • Seasava Plus R, 4-person life raft, stowed on deck within GRP case. Last serviced 2011, next service was notified as being May 2014 and as such this life raft should be consider to be 'un-serviced'

General note on any safety equipment:Any safety equipment such as life rafts, EPIRBs, fire extinguishers and flares etc. are usually personal to the current owner(s) and if being left on-board as part of the sale of a used vessel may require routine servicing, replacement, or changing to meet a new owners specific needs.
