Built 1977 in Holland. Steel construction with strong aft chines.
Built 1977 in Holland. Steel construction with strong aft chines.
Had a full re-fit in 2007 with previous owners (loads of paperwork and history with the boat)
Purchased by us in early 2016 after a pre-purchase survey at the end of 2015. The boat was lying in Bideford where she stayed until spring 2016. She was then sailed to Cardiff but had been stormed damaged whilst in Bideford. She was purchased as a project. (all recommendations on survey have been completed)
She was hauled out of the water in Cardiff for a couple of months whilst the hull was checked over and a small area was found to need re-plating, this was completed, the hull was stripped, primed and re-painted in her Navy Blue. The anchor locker was storm damaged, this has been fully re-built. She was antifouled as well, anodes changes for Fresh Water and popped back in the water. She had a new UV strip on the Genoa in 2016 with the main found to be good. 2 new domestic batteries fitted.
In December 2016 she was hauled out again for an extended period (6 months) for further works over the winter months. The deck was completely stripped back, refurbished, primed and painted. The gunnales, davits, transom and cockpit have also been done. The woodwork in the cockpit was stripped and re-varnished. The sprayhood was removed for replacement. The mast and boom were cleaned with new nav lights fitted where necessary. The radar has been serviced as well. Bow light cable re-run as it was faulty. The sail-drive had some issues, the Beta engine was removed and checked over and found to be in very good condition. The Selva sail-drive was completely stripped back, all new pinion bearings, ball bearings and every other bearing! New seal as well, runs beautifully. Engine mounts inspected and found to be good, bilges painted, and sail-drive/engine put back. Propeller cleaned and antifouled.
The boat was re-launched in May 2017 and the mast stepped. One cable has been damaged during this process for the Raymarine Windy – this cable we have purchased and it will be going with the boat.
Since being afloat in May we have been steadily doing other bits and pieces in between sailing. The sprayhood is brand new, all the extinguishers were new in 2017 and inspected in Sept 2018, Automatic extinguisher in engine compartment. The fridge stopped working so we purchased a brand new Waeco marine fridge. All the upholstered cushions inside have been cleaned – some parts may need re-upholstering but this never bothered us and is in overall fair condition.
All the bilges have been stripped, primed and painted 2018. We installed an inspection hatch and new site tube to the water tank and it has been cleaned/treatednew batteries have just been installed (Nov 2018).
Personal Comments:
Marabella has been wonderful in every way. She has looked after us in the Bristol Channel and provided us with a very comfortable home. She has great character, not just in appearance but in sailing as well. She heels beautifully and sails comfortably at 6-7 knots and more if pushed.
She has a deep bottom which gives loads of inside space, the headroom is great and with the bottom quite round the storage lockers are big.
The purchaser will need to look after her, she can be left for a winter but likes a little clean and attention in the summer. She’ll look after you completely and we are absolutely devastated to sell her. We have purchased a larger steel yacht for ocean sailing and if we could keep Marabella too, we certainly would.
History:
I know she was built in Holland in 1977, to a Van De Stadt sort of design but she is essentially Custom. I’m not sure when she arrived to the UK but the previous owners had her for about 10 years and kept her on the south coast where they sailed in the English Channel and Channel Islands. She was completely re-fitted at Fox’ boatyard and then Appledore with new steel and the interior completely redone. The owner some time later passed, and the son took over. Sadly she was left in Bideford and neglected a little bit. She is now afloat in Cardiff Marina.
