This Trapper 501 Bilge Keel has been fully refitted between 2017 and 2019, fully upgraded and is in very good condition for her year. “Spooky II” had a new engine in 2018 with just 50 hours and many upgrades. Accommodation

The Trapper 501 offers 6 berths in 2 cabins with approx. 5'11" max. headroom. The Forepeak has a V berth and stowage areas with lift out bins. The Heads compartment is located between the saloon and forepeak with a Jabsco marine toilet, sliding wash basin and stowage opposite. Saloon with a dinette to port converts to form a double berth, settee berth to starboard and ample lockers. There is a Quarter berth aft to port with sliding chart table. above The Galley aft to starboard consisting of a 2-burner gas stove with grill and oven, double galley sinks, manually pumped cold water supply. Original velour upholstery. A charcoal heating system. Large cockpit with large storage.

Masthead rigged Bermudian sloop. Deck stepped silver anodised aluminium mast and boom. Spinnaker pole. Stainless steel standing rigging (2011). Inner forestay, Terylene running rigging. Slab reefing mainsail with lazyjacks. New Seden headsail furling system 2019.

Mechanical Systems

Located under the companionway, Beta Marine 3-cylinder 20hp diesel engine new 2018 with 90 hours as at May 2020. The engine has an extended warranty complete with new techno drive, new Morse control, instrument panel and wiring loom. Shaft drive to fixed 3-bladed propeller. Freshwater cooled. 57-litre stainless steel fuel tank. Cruising speed of 6 knots with a maximum speed of 7.5knots. Last out of the water for maintenance in November 2019 when the cutlass bearing was replaced and the hull antifouled.

Electrical System

3 x 12-volt batteries (1x engine 75Ah 2017, 2 x domestic 100AH 2018) charging from alternator, and 3 separate solar panels one for each battery.

Hull lifted, twin keels blasted and re-epoxied
Rudder peeled to metal core and rebuilt with international gel shield epoxy
Hull peeled back to the core below waterline dried over 6 months with constant fresh water washing to remove toxins.
6 coats of international gel shield and hand sanded to a fine as new finish
Topsides polished and treated with ultraviolet light protector

Original engine removed and disposed of, s/s fuel tank refurbished and treated to improve flow, old water filter replaced with new updated system capable of rodding from inside, all cocks, skin fixings, mounts replaced, new 500fg fuel filter and water separator fitted, new exhaust system fitted, new shaft glands fitted, new beta marine 20hp engine installed with extended warranty (2018). Complete with new Technodrive
New Morse control, instrument panel and wiring loom.
2 new deep cycle batteries giving 170Ah
1 new starting battery
New 3 way positive cut off switch

History and Construction

This Trapper 501 was built by Trapper Yachts in 1983. Owned by the current owner since 2017 selling due to ill health only two previous owners. White GRP hull and decks with moulded non-slip surfaces. Under water hull epoxied 2017. Cast iron bilge keels. Tiller steering to spade rudder. Self-draining cockpit. Teak grating to cockpit floor and seating.
