HISTORY & DESCRIPTION: SILVER KING was designed and built by Thornycroft & Co. Ltd. Hampton Upon Thames in 1965 for Alan De Costa of London. Alan kept her on the River Thames in the first year of his ownership, returning SILVER KING to Thornycroft’s in 1966 for the wheelshelter to be fully enclosed. SILVER KING was then sailed down to Palma, Mallorca where she was sold in 1967 to Leslie Bolson of Albion Gate, Hyde Park, London.
Leslie moved SILVER KING to Cannes in the late 1970s where she was bought by Madame Dorothy Atkins of Eden Palm, Cannes. The current owners, the Gilberts purchased SILVER KING in 1982, they remained in Cannes until 1998 before re-locating to Antibe and later to San Remo in 2012 where she is presently stationed. SILVER KING has been a much-loved family boat these past three decades or so. Business commitments in recent years have not allowed much free time to spend aboard and SILVER KING now requires some refurbishment.
SILVER KING is of substantial mahogany planked construction on oak frames. Teak laid decks. The hull form is based on the successful MTB design. Accommodation for Eight Guests in Four Cabins with Bathroom, shower room, two separate WCs. Spacious deck saloon, galley with dishwasher, washer-drier and ice maker. Pilothouse. Pair of 86hp FORD/THORNYCROFT 6 Cylinder diesel engines with Borg-Warner Velvet Drives, overhauled by Lancing Marine in 2010. Walter Mach V Drives. Cruising speed 9 knots. 9hp SLEIPNER BOW THRUSTER fitted 2011. ONAN 3 kva Generator (1965) VICTRON 120 amp INVERTER Full electrical upgrade in 2008.
BROKERS NOTE:
A substantial 1960s classic motor-yacht from the well respected Thornycroft boat builders. A spacious, well-designed vessel ideal for exploring the Med or as a permanent liveaboard or holiday base in the sun. Alternatively, SILVER KING would make a great liveaboard on the Thames in London.
Offered at a very realistic price to account for the refurbishment work required, which could be undertaken over a period of time or professionally completed to restore SILVER KING to the fabulous head-turner of former years. Contact us for more information, recent photographs or to arrange a visit aboard.
