On the 19.07.06 Matt Sillifant of Boat Mapping & Mike Conner of MRL set off in a standard Stingher 800Gt from the Solent to circumnavigate the Channel Isles, go round the Scilly Isles & return to the start-finish line in the Solent, a journey of 540 nautical miles. Their first stop was in St. Helier where they had to wait almost 30 minutes for the fuel hose to reach the Rib because of low tide. With conditions freshening between Jersey & St. Marys, they were experiencing sea state 4-5 with 3 metre seas. The on board equipment records up to 9g-force during the period. They then re-fuelled in St. Marys after going round the Scilly Isles & the notorious Bishops Rock lighthouse. With what was likely to be the hardest part of the journey complete, they continued along the South coast of England, briefly calling in at Lymington for a fuel splash & dash before completing the course in the early hours of 20.07.06 in a time of 20 hours & 32 minutes. A New World record was set & ?The Southern Isles Challenge Cup? was won.
