DESCRIPTION

A good example of these popular cruiser/racers.  The David Thomas designed Sigma 36 has a well deserved reputation for being fast, easy to handle, light on the helm and good in a blow, with an interior layout that offers plenty of comfort for relaxed cruising.  The present owners have had her since 1990 and have maintained and upgraded the boat to a high standard.  An excellent choice for those who like racing and cruising, and well worth viewing.

Accommodation

The layout offers plenty of berths, with double berths forward and aft separate from the main accommodation.  In the forecabin, V berth with stowage under.  Opening hatch to foredeck.  Hanging lockers to port.  Separate heads compartment to starboard with marine toilet and washbasin.  Holding tank (2012).  In saloon, dinette to starboard with settee berth opposite.  Pilot berths outboard both sides.  Chart table to starboard with quarter berth and double berth behind.  Galley opposite.  Two burner gimballed gas cooker with grill and oven.  Stainless steel sink.  Hot and cold pressurised water system.  50 gallon freshwater capacity.  Radio/CD player.  Webasto diesel fired hot air central heating.

Mechanical Systems

Located behind the companionway, Volvo D1-30 three cylinder 30hp diesel engine, installed new in 2006 and has completed about 1000 hours running time.  Electric start.  Freshwater cooled via heat exchanger.  Shaft drive to Brunton three bladed feathering propeller (recently refurbished) via a Brunton Sigma Drive coupling. Rope cutter.  Non-drip shaft seal.  The P bracket was removed and re-bedded 2005.  Single lever control.  24 gallon fuel capacity in stainless steel tank (new 2008).  Fuel injectors and diesel pump reconditioned, new engine mounts fitted 2010.

Construction

Built in 1985 by Marine Projects to a design by David Thomas.  White GRP hull with style stripes.  Alloy toe rails.  White GRP superstructure with painted non-slip to deck.  Fin keel (shotblasted and epoxied 2004, keelbolts checked).  Spade hung rudder.  Tiller steering.  Aft self draining cockpit.  In her present ownership since 1990, the boat has been carefully maintained and continually upgraded.  There was a limited amount of racing in the early years, and later cruised to Scotland, Ireland and the Baltic.  It was treated for osmosis in 2008.  Keel bolts were renewed 2006.  In 1993 there was some racing damage to the starboard toe rail, which was replaced.  In 1993, the boat suffered minor collision damage from a boat helmed by the Duke of Edinburgh whilst racing.  A cleat was pulled out and was replaced.  In 2004, a collision mid Channel with a submerged object caused some damage to the keel root, which was professionally repaired under surveyor supervision (David Hopkins, a Sigma specialist).
