'Rumrat' is an example of the popular twin keeled version of the Sadler 29 and this one is of the later 'Built-in Buoyancy' examples. She will dry out on her own keels and can be laid ashore without recourse to hiring/using a storage cradle.
With attractive lines and easily handled, the Sadler 29 was intended to offer a satisfying performance to experienced sailors. The Sadler 29 also offers the benefits of her foam-filled internal moulding for good insulation levels and dry, wipe clean under-berth spaces.
This particular example benefits from a replacement engine and a relatively recent refit, followed by subsequent maintenance, together with modernequipment upgrades. Unfortunately, the hull has been hand-painted and now, significant areas of the finish have come away on the fenders, but we suggest that overall 'Rum Rat' represents a relatively straightforward, rewarding and economic boat to take pride in. There have been many expensive items of equipment added to her inventory over the last couple of years.
Comfortable accommodation offering up to six berths in two cabins.
Blue 'Velour' upholstery throughout in good order.
Diesel-fired, warm air heating system with outlets in main saloon and forward cabin.
All internal lighting changed to low energy LED bulbs.
Diesel-fired, warm air heating unit mounted in cockpit locker with adjacent and dedicated automatic fire extinguisher.
Forward cabin with double vee berth, open shelving above berth along each hull side. Overhead opening deck hatch (hatch recently replaced).
Heads compartment with RM69 sea toilet, wash basin with pumped fresh water and locker space. Hanging locker area to starboard, opposite the heads.
Saloon with 'U-shaped' seating to port, this can convert to a double berth; central table with bottle stowage within; settee berth opposite. Optional overhead opening deck hatch (hatch recently replaced) over the table. Navigation station aft to starboard with forward facing chart table and instrumentation. Quarter-berth aft and to starboard of the cockpit.
Galley: 'L' shaped galley area located aft and to port with a Techimpex 2 burner gas stove with oven to replace the original Flavell Vanessa. Cool box with 12v cooler unit. Stainless steel sink with manual pumped fresh water. Fold down worktop extension flap.
Cockpit area: Full cockpit enclosure/cockpit tent . Sprayhood with zipped rear cover. All cockpit canvas work replaced in the past 3 years
Beta Marine 25hp 3 cylinder, indirectly cooled diesel, fitted in 2005, and fully overhauled in 2019.
Rigged as a masthead sloop rig on aluminium alloy mast & boom by Selden, but badged by Kemp Masts of Titchfield, with Rotostay roller reefing fitted to the for'stay for the headsail.
Sails:
This bilge-keeled example of the Sadler 29 was built by Sadler Yachts Ltd in 1988.
GRP hull supported by an internal moulding and the internal voids filled with closed cell foam to provide buoyancy, while the deck is of a conventional balsa-cored structure, with internal head liner in the modern idiom. The transom hung rudder is su[pported by a deep skeg. Twin ballast keels of cast iron are externally fastened using stainless steel fastenings.
The hull, which is believed to have been faded pale blue has been re-painted by hand, while the deck's original two-tone finish has been retained, with the non-slip areas having been painted, leaving the white gloss areas in the original white gelcoat.
The cockpit seats and bridge deck have been sheathed in hardwood of good thickness and the edge cappings rebated to protect the exposed internal edges. As will be seen in the photographs, the lifting cockpit sole was sheathed at the same time.
'Rumrat' was the subject of a major refit in 2019, and since then - in the current ownership - has received frequent renewals, maintenance and equipment upgrades.
