CHAMPAGNE HIPPY must be one of the most well-known yachts in her size band on the planet. Many will remember her as POLINA STAR, the Oyster 825 that sank after a keel fault, fortunately without loss of life. Once she was recovered it, was discovered that there was a build and design fault connected with the attachment of the keel to the internal structure. Much has been written of it, and her original builders changed ownership because of it.
POLINA STAR was transported back to the UK and her current owners took her on and have given her a second life. Accompanying these technical specifications are documents relating to the rebuild of the yacht. All the work was carried out to super yacht standards with subcontract labour used to ensure that the quality was of the highest. Most of her systems have been replaced, again with very high specification kit. She was also rebuilt to and maintains the coding of MCA Category 0, the highest standard that the MCA monitor and not something that would have been available to her in her first life.
After all the hard work of the rebuild, her owners realized their dream to sail across the Atlantic with her. She is now a successful charter yacht as well as being a comfortable and fun family cruising yacht. That aside, she is an Oyster 825 with a reverse transom which provides lots of space for toys and also makes boarding and enjoying the watersports aspect of cruising very simple. The Oyster 825 is a great size for family cruising with crew and offers fast passage times together with excellent accommodation and a fantastic cockpit and deck areas. She is a fast and responsive sailing yacht.
CHAMPAGNE HIPPY’s refit was executed to a standard and not to a price. The keel matrix was rebuilt, the interior joinery is new as is the rig, sails, electronics and so much more. She has a current stability booklet and she is looking fantastic.
