Unique Houseboat with two V-12 Diesel engines and Schottel drive. Extremely suitable for living on board or long trips to France or Germany.
The XL12 is a unique sailing living ship for the inland as well as the coastal waters. It is built relatively low (minimum clearance: 3.50 metres) with the intention of being able to sail almost the whole of Europe. In the Netherlands she can get around very well, on almost all inland waterways and also on the Wadden Sea towards the islands. Also Germany, around Berlin, and the Rhine can be sailed. The ship has a Rhine-certificate so also river-sailing is allowed. France is by low height and maximum width of 4.90 to sail. in other words, "she is ideal for long trips and / or permanent or semi-permanent residence.
The ship was built in 1970 at the yard of "Schottel-Nederland B.V." at Warmond. It is one of the few Schottel-powered vessels that has never sailed in government service. she was built for a German customer and sailed with staff, a captain and sailor, who had separate living quarters in the forecastle.
The current owners have lived aboard since 2012 and have made extensive voyages through Europe, with a berth in Zwartsluis in the winter. The hull is built in Corten steel, which has the property that an oxide skin is formed which prevents further rusting. The superstructure is made of aluminum. Partly because of these materials, the maintenance of the hull, deck and superstructure is relatively simple.
The propulsion consists of 2 independent lines, the ship has two, 12-cylinder diesel engines of approximately 412 HP each, these each drive a Schottel (rudder propeller), steering is therefore without a rudder, but by means of the screws, which can each turn 360 degrees, making the maneuverability of the ship exceptionally good.
The XL12 has 3 cabins below decks, 2 with a double bed (2.00 x 1.60 and 2.00 x 1.40) and one with a bunk bed 2.00 x 60 (forward where the crew room used to be) also below decks is the spacious wet room with toilet, bath and separate shower, and a separate toilet room with electric toilet, connected to the holding tank.
Above deck is the spacious salon annex wheelhouse with doors on both sides for easy access from the steering position. Behind the salon is the spacious kitchen, fully equipped (dishwasher, large fridge and separate freezer). The boat is equipped with a central heating system. Behind the galley is the large aft deck, divided into two sections, a seating area under a spacious cockpit tent and a seating area where a small car can be parked.
