Exceptionally easy to sail and perfect safe step up from dinghy sailing. Accommodates 4 people. New SeaFeather Self Steering system using wind alone. Crossed channel to France and Guernsey June 2019
Exceptionally easy to sail and perfect step up from dinghy sailing. Proved perfect for me to teach my children to sail without there being too many lines confusing things
This is the largest trailer sail boat made by popular American company O'Day, She is on a trot mooring on the river Dart in Devon and her swinging keel means that she can be run in close to shore between tides and her hull scrubbed. Saves a small fortune in lifting in/out fees. That said, I took her out last year and gave her new antifouling
The inboard 9hp Yanmar has approx 250hrs and is very efficient, using about 1 litre of diesel per hour at 4.5kts. She has a glass-bowl fuel filter so you can tell at a glance how clean the filter is. Really usefully the diesel tank is plastic, so it doesn't produce the huge amounts of condensation that stainless tanks produce and the related problems that can cause. The flushing heads are between the forward and main cabins on the port side with a privacy curtain and wash hand basin opposite to starboard. The forward accomodation is long enough for someone over 6' tall to sleep and has new cushion covers, as well as 12v lighting. In the forward cabin is the chain locker with 40m chain and 20m line. Also forward is a freshwater tank in a flexible bladder (replaced 2019)
The main cabin sleeps two to three and has new cushions and covers. Also replaced last year are the windows that run the full length. They are through-bolted with special stainless (flush) fittings so as to reduce the chance of future problems. There is ample storage space here with bilge lockers both sides and a two ring spirit stove on gimbals that cleverly slides out of the way on stainless runners when not in use. A folding teak table against the bulkhead midships, doubles as a chart table at sea or dining table alongside. The large roller-furler jib sail had a new UV strip last year and matches the blue mainsail. The main is partly battened and fitted with two reefs. A spare halliard is fitted at the head of the mast suitable for spinnaker or cruising chute. New LED steaming, sailing and anchor lights to ensure very low current is drawn. VHF radio with DSC and new aerial fitted last year. Garmin GPS with charts is positioned to be visible from inside, or rotated so as to be viewed from the cockpit.
The cockpit has a compass, depth guage, tiller with SeaFeather automatic helm and full length white splashproof seat pads for use alongside when enjoying a drink. The SeaFeather is an exceptional wind-powered device fitted new in 2018. It is the ultimate piece of sailing equipment when shorthanded, sailing solo or just when you and the crew want to enjoy a relaxing lunch and maintains a heading relative to the wind
As well as new windows in 2019, the teak mast foot was replaced ready for crossing the channel to France and Guernsey in June.
