+1989 NorthCoast 31 Express
North Coast, MA, builder of sportfishing boats, got it right when they came out with the North Coast 31, a handsome tournament fisherman with a big cockpit and generous cabin accommodations. Notably, the hull was designed by C.J. Jannace, the naval architect who designed all of Blackfins highly regarded deep-V hulls. Construction is solid fiberglass, and a hard outboard reverse chine reduces the deep-V roll while adding stability at rest. The 31s cockpit includes a circulating baitwell and a pair of 5-foot, lift-out fish boxes. Trim tabs are recessed, but the outboard rudders extend slightly behind the transom. A pair of bait boxes sit at the front of the cockpit, doubling as steps up to the side decks. The tackle center includes a sink, cold storage, and cabinets. Visibility from the raised helm deck is excellent, and the large console permits flush-mounting a full array of electronic add-ons. Below, the well-finished cabin has a convertible dinette for- ward, compact galley, and a shower stall in the head. Twin 8.1 Crusaders cruise the North Coast 31 in the low 20s and top out at 27-28 knots. Note that Blackfin later acquired the molds to this model and briefly marketed her as the 31 Combi.
