A rare Broom 2 seater sports boat with period trailer
Piccolo is a delightful 1961 model of the popular Broom Rapier built by Jack Broom Boats and is complete with its original engine, trailer, paddles and even waterskis.
The restoration was done over a two year period and the boat is a bijou. The vendor’s previous restoration ( a 1930’s Hydroplane) is now part of the National Small Boats Collection at the National Maritime Museum.
According to the original sales brochure “The Rapier is a high speed two seater, unchallenged in its class for looks, performance, comfort and price. A full flared bow and deflector rails give spray-free riding at all time. Moulded to form on the stressed skin principle, its leak-proof hull reduces maintenance to a minimum”.
The Rapier’s light weight means easy handling by one person. Planing speeds can be attained with much less horse power, involving lower initial outlay and reduced running costs. According to the original sales information the Rapier is adequate for water skiing or merely for cruising with a small motor this is the solution.
Moulded from mahogany on prime English oak, chrome plated bronze fittings and windscreen surround. Fitted with removable two tone seating in Vyanide and foam.
Piccolo is available for viewing at Beale Park boat store and is a delightful option for someone wishing to attend a classic motorboat event or simply to have some fun on home waters.
NB The photo shows a modern trailer but in fact Piccolo is now on a period trailer which completes the picture.
