The shallop was commissioned for the 1966 film A Man for All Seasons about the life and death of Sir Thomas More.
The shallop was commissioned for the 1966 film A Man for All Seasons about the life and death of Sir Thomas More.
The Youtube clip shows the boat carrying ‘Henry VIII’ down the river to meet Sir Thomas. It also featured in Elizabeth The Golden Age with Cate Blanchett.
15m long with a 2.4m beam, the boat was built in 1965 at Kingston-on –Thames by the late Michael Turk, Swan Marker and Queen’s boatman. Turk came from a centuries old family of Thames watermen and he used the original plans to construct the replica. It originally had ten oars, now missing, and was sailed for display purposes on the lake at Beale Wildlife Park and during a regatta on the Thames at London. Stylistically it is the Tudor equivalent of the current Gloriana, The Queen’s rowbarge.
The vessel is on its bespoke trailer and is in poor condition. However it could be used for display, restoration, film work etc.
Price is £5,000, or nearest offer.
The Homebuilt Shallop is 49 feet long that boasts a 7.9 feet beam
