This vessel was SOLD on July 9. The Sailing Yacht Evening Star is design #0638 from John G. Alden, created in 1936 and built by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Co., Bristol, Rhode Island, USA in 1937. She is rigged as a Bermudan Yawl and was constructed for Frederick Ford of Detroit. She is the only boat Herreshoff Mfg. Co. built that wasn't designed by a Herreshoff and one of the very last, if not the last, boat the company built during Nathaniel Herreshoff's lifetime. Most of her gear and structure is original, Her steering pedestal and anchor winch were designed, cast and built "in house" by the HMCo., as are most of her fittings and, of course, her bronze knees. Evening Star was originally constructed with cedar carvel planks over wood and metal floors with steam bent frames. She displaces #52350 and has #18000 of cast lead ballast in her keel. Her spars are constructed of Sitka Spruce. She offers a truly one of a kind opportunity for the right buyer wishing to own a piece of history!
