Alexa (ex Envys), is a 29'6'' Askadil Design, built by K R Skentlebery of Plymouth, constructed of a Burma teak on oak hull, copper fastened, lead keel, teak coachroof coamings, brightwork and rails, with re-laid original teak decks. In her current ownership Alexa has been effectively taken apart with many repairs having taken place including all brass deck fastenings replaced for bronze, hood ends replaced for bronze, deck re-caulked, and the engine beds re-done. She is now sold as an ongoing project effectively as a 'kit of parts' to be put back together with a little extra attention required to dress some of the wood, re-bed the chain plates and some work to the stem. A great opportunity to put one of the larger HB designed metacentric yachts back on the water.

History

• When built in 1934  ALEXA was first owned by Dr. G A Gassman and later by Dr. W Brownlow-Smith.  After the war Lt. Col. Mitchell became the owner selling her in 1958 to the well-known yachtsman Capt. C W McMullen DSC RN who changed the vessels original name from ENVYS to ALEXA in memory of his Aunt who financed the venture.  Mcmullen’s cruising adventures are recorded in the Royal Cruising Club Journals for which he was awarded the RCC Challenge Cup for an Eastabout Cruise of the United Kingdom in 1958.  In the early 1970’s Rear Admiral R S Warne CB CBE acquired the vessel together with the previous owners. 
• Alexa was previously owned and sailed by the former chairman of the Harrison Butler Association and his wife for over forty years. The Harrison Butler Association, with currently two hundred members world-wide is dedicated to yachts designed by Dr. Thomas Harrison Butler.  Full membership is available to owners or past owners of authentic boats and associate membership open to anyone with an interest in THB’s designs.  Members meet throughout the year at the various classic boat events and for lunches, the AGM and a laying-up supper in September.  The Journal of The Harrison Butler Association is published bi-annually together with a Year Book.
