DESCRIPTION

"Osprey" is an ocean cruising ketch rigged sailboat - she has only seen 1-owner since new and had around 80,000 miles under her keel. She is in vey nice condition and is priced to sell due to the current owner passing away recently. She has a great 2-cabin layout with 2-heads and 2-companionways. Built like a tank. The teak decks were professionally removed as was the balsa coring - a water impervious coring was then added (resin) and refinished with non-skid. For someone looking for a serious offshore yacht with a performance pedigree - look no further!

Overall:

The Tri-Star 48 is truly a performance "racer/cruiser." Its variety of sail combinations allows it to do 175nm days and cruise easily at 8 knots. Its waterline/beam ratio of 2.57 gives it a hull speed of slightly over 8 knots and a low PHRF of only 101. Simply put, this boat is fast, sea kindly and safe!

The boat was built for long distances. Its tankage holds 170 gallons of water and 110 gallons of diesel. That much fuel will allow motoring 400nm with a safe reserve. Its large refrigerator and freezer, both cooled by cold plates powered by an 8kw generator will keep perishables cold and/or frozen for a long time. The boat sleeps four forward and aft berths plus two more in the salon

The nav station has a large chart table and redundancy in all the latest navigational instruments. When you get to your destination there is plenty of room to entertain in the sumptuous salon that seats six at the drop leaf table under a large, brass oil lamp. In addition to the aft cabin companionway there is also the main companionway to the salon to provide privacy in the at cabin. Both cabins have ensuite heads and showers. This boat is friendly for the Captain and mate, crew and friends.

Only two of these boats were made. The hull and deck were laid up and the bulkheads all bonded together, the engine and tanks installed and the interior finished in Taiwan. The two were then shipped to Annapolis but, unfortunately, the builder spent so much money on German Frers custom design and solid, safe construction that no more were built. The single owner purchased hHull #2 in 1988, installed masts and rigging and lovingly sailed and cared for the boat until his untimely death in mid 2020 when he was prepping the boat to go again
