This is the 2 stateroom layout with a single head and spacious stall shower, there is ample room for more storage with the one head layout.

Furthest forward is the V-berth with storage outboard in cabinets and the large storage closet aft to port. Next aft is the main salon with a port dinette, large dining table mounted to the bulkhead and starboard settee with navigation station. Aft to starboard is the head with ample shower stall, to port is the galley and furthest aft is the Master stateroom with a custom Select Comfort air chamber mattress on the large double berth.

The interior is finished with warm teak bulkheads and joinery, teak and holly sole and white laminates. All stainless steel opening ports and overhead hatches provide ventilation. There are interior 12vdc fans to assist.

"Waterlilly" , my beautiful Freedom 40/40.

When I was looking for a boat in this class, the Freedom 40/40 stood out above all others. I previously owned two other keel sloops (a Sabre 426 and a Sabre 362) and I had personal knowledge & experience on many others. I wanted a SAFE, quality boat that was capable & comfortable for long passages and was easy to sail (especially short handed). I also wanted the boat to be fun to sail, would be competitive for Yacht Club beer can races and had room for a long term cruising.

Safety: Freedom's quality build process and its Lloyd's of London specification criteria far exceed the Beneteau, Jeanneau, Catalina, and other boats in the 40' category.

I chose the Freedom with the inboard shaft driven propeller over the sail drive models for the safety and maintenance benefits.

The lead wing keel (5'4" draft) allows you to enjoy the Bahamas and other challenging skinny waters and the air draft of 63' (mast height and antennas) provides ICW cruising flexibility. The carbon fiber free standing mast is a huge safety benefit. There are no chain plates to maintain or standing rigging that have to be replaced as time demands. There have never been any Freedoms that have had mast issues (with the exception of one owner who hit a bridge). The Freedom 40/40 completely "checked all the boxes" for me.

"Waterlilly" has more headroom than a Sabre 426. I am 6'4" and I had no issues with headroom clearance on this boat (I had to hunch over on my Saber 426). The salon is far brighter than other sloops of similar vintage offering deck window lights flooding the living area with natural light on both sides of the center hatch. The companionway is stunning. I "forward walk" down from the cockpit like stairs without having to descend backwards. You won't find this on many boats. (Dogs love this by the way).

The walk through sugar scoop transom provides easy and safe unloading of provisions and crew from an inflatable. The custom stainless grab handrails provide a grab assist and also supports the OB motor storage.

Both cabin bunks (the V berth and the aft master stateroom) are large enough to accommodate all sailors and crew regardless of their height!

The "ease of use" factor is very high on the Freedom. The self tacking jib allows you to set it and forget it when underway. Just turn the wheel and tack. The jib sets itself easily.

All control lines run aft for easy management from the cockpit. There are three reef points in the mainsail providing flexibility for all conditions. The jib is on a roller furler and is controlled from the cockpit. I have sailed "Waterlilly" in every condition imaginable, alone or with short crew, and always felt safe. The boat will not let you down.

While I have seen some Freedom 40/40's "pimped out" for beer can races (even with carbon-fiber sails), I chose to set her up for cruising. The full enclosure provides dry and warm sailing day or night and has been a salvation and huge difference for comfort cruising. The enclosure also has full mosquito netting for uncomfortable anchorages in select conditions.

Adding to the "cruise-ability", I installed 650 watts of solar that keeps all batteries topped off and I can run the refrigeration without worry. The refrigeration was upgraded to 12 volt and has two separate compressors and controls for the freezer and the refrigerator. I have always been able to freeze fresh fish and keep provisions frozen for months. I have never purchased ice as the freezer quickly makes tray cubes!

"Waterlilly" has full A/C providing comfort while docked slip side on warm nights. The owner aft berth has a "Select Comfort" mattress with two individual settings individually selectable for each occupant.

The windlass was rebuilt and is an excellent unit, easy to use. The Rocna anchor, chain and rode has been tested in a variety of conditions. The anchor has a stainless steel swivel from Germany that provides additional attributes for solid "resetting" during tide current or wind shift resets.

The dodger provides shade and wind protection and all enclosures are easily zipped onto it including connector. It all rolls up as well.

There is a reason why the past president of Freedom yachts personally, to this day, has a 40/40.

I LOVE this boat and so will you! I have sailed "Waterlilly" from the Bahamas to Maine and enjoyed every nautical mile. Sadly, due to my own health status, I can no longer sail ANY boat and have had to terminate my 60 year sailing career. Due to industrial and sports accidents I have had several (three) prosthetic shoulders and am due for a fourth. I wish my parts were as strong as the boats parts.
