Vessel Walkthrough
  • Transom & Aft Deck:

Starting at the transom, you will find a full beam swim platform with foldout ladder. Bottom paint is brand new (11/21), and the hull has been recently polished, looking clean and clear. The aft deck is raised with lifelines and stainless steel railing, with openings at the stern and both sides for easy ingress/egress. The teak aft deck is in wonderful condition and has a hinged engine room access door, as well as a hinged storage compartment for lines/fenders. There is a brightly varnished teak table with two fold-out leaves that is pedestal mounted here. There are removable panels in the aft deck that easily provide Amazing Engine Room access (8' x 8') when desired. This aft deck is fully covered and accented with Teak accent strips and overhead built in lights. There is a molded in Seat with removable seat cushions at the front end of the cockpit.

  • Side and Foredecks:

Side decks are wide and easy to navigate with excellent handrails and lifelines.

There are 50 amp shore power connections at the Port sidewalk and also at the Bow.

Washdown connections are also located at the Stern and Bow. Two fuel tank fills and two water tank fills are also conveniently located on the side decks.

Pilothouse side windows are sliders and the front windows are fixed, but there are nifty fresh air vents that can be opened to allow fresh air directly into the Pilothouse when desired. Stamoid Vinyl window covers are included for the front and side Pilothouse windows, as well as the Cabinhouse side windows.

The large, two-level foredeck, has multiple Stainless Steel deck hatches, that have all been recently replaced and rebedded. Deck hardware is substantial and anchoring is assisted by a Maxwell Windlass with foot-pedal controls.

  • Pilothouse:

The fully enclosed Pilothouse is accessed by way of a lockable door on the port side. Teak Parquet flooring throughout the pilothouse is in very nice condition, as is the teak cabinetry. A leather upholstered Helm sofa is easily wide enough for 3 to 4 people and offers Excellent Visibility while cruising at all speeds. All Electronics and Navigational Equipment are within easy reach of the Capt. There is a Heat/Air Conditioning system dedicated to the Pilothouse. The large front windshield panels are fixed, each has a wiper and washer. The side windows are sliders, and the rear window is a slider. There are two large overhead hatches, each with a canvas cover to keep the sun glare to a minimum. The large center overhead hatch, provides access to the upper helm and easily onto the hardtop. At this upper station you will find: speed and depth repeater, Guest remote spotlight controls, Anchor Windlass controls, Raymarine Autopilot 650, Autohelm electronic compass, Shift and throttle controls, "stick steering". On the roof is the Marquipt Sea-Davit with plug in controls, Dinghy chocks and tie-downs, easy access to all antennas.

  • Salon:

From the Pilothouse, down a port side stairway you will find the Salon. Large and open with excellent views from the very large windows, all with custom Curtains. There is a Heat/Air Conditioning system dedicated to this area. Two upholstered sitting chairs and a TV Cabinet run along the port side of the salon, and the Main AC/DC Breaker panel is here as well. The TV is a 23 inch flat screen with DVD and DirecTV inputs, as well as an over-air Local TV Antenna. There is a Stereo here that connects to the Aft Deck/Helm and Salon speakers. A large L-shaped sofa runs along the rear and Stbd side of the Salon, There is a Brightly Varnished Teak Hi/Low table with two leaves at the sofa that is well suited for cocktails as well as dinner. End cabinets offer excellent storage with Lamps and overhead lights for Lighting.

  • Galley:

Two steps down from the Salon you will find the galley. A microwave oven and several storage compartments are on the stbd side as well as a Top Loading Freezer and a surprisingly large Refrigerator. The Ice Maker is located on the end of the Galley Peninsula, and beautiful Teak Parquet floors run throughout the galley. Ample counter space with upper and lower teak cabinetry, a stainless steel double sink with combination faucet, garbage disposal, under cabinet lighting, overhead lighting, a very large corner dry storage area, and a Princess stainless steel 3 burner stove with oven round out the galley space.

  • Master Stateroom:

Forward from the galley is the Master Suite. With a queen sized walk around bed (headboard runs along the port side), end cabinets on both sides with lamps and individual reading lamps. Wonderful storage spaces within beautiful teak cabinets, Several overhead hatches and Working portlights provide natural lighting when desired. There is a Heat/Air Conditioning system dedicated to this area. A new 23 inch Flat Screen Roku TV has been added to the Master suite. Headroom natural lighting and space will impress you in the Master Suite.

  • Master Head and Shower:

Just forward of the Master Stateroom is the Master head and shower. A Raritan electric flushing toilet, sink and vanity, generous storage space as well as a stand up shower with tiled floor complete this space. There is a Magnavox 13 inch flat screen TV in the master head and excellent light and ventilation.

  • Anchor Locker:

Forward of the Master Head/Shower is the anchor locker. But referring to this space as an anchor locker, does it no justice at all. This space is bright, well lit, offers the customary access to the Windlass motor, but also the forward 50 amp shore power cord, and offers a surprisingly impressive amount of additional storage capability.

  • Guest Stateroom:

Aft from the Salon you will find the Guest Space. With a double berth, excellent head room and storage space, and it's own sink and vanity, your guests will be spoiled. Also, the Guest head with stand-up shower is here as well as a counter space that houses the individual Washer and Dryer Units.

  • Engine Room and Mechanical Space:

Aft from the Guest Stateroom you will find a large door to the engine room. Twin Cummins 6CTA8.3 liter in-line 6 cylinder engines (1982 original hrs), 420 hp each with ZF Marine V-Drive transmissions and Mathers Electronic Controls. There is very good access to all 4 sides of each engine, Dual Shift-on-the-fly Racor Primary fuel filters are conveniently located in the center and the Onan 9 kw diesel powered Generator (275 hrs, replaced several years ago) in a sound shield, is located aft on a raised platform in the rear of the engine space. Tides Dripless shaft seals are easy to reach and spare seals are in place (there is a cross over water tube in place). All three HVAC Units are easy to reach, the Sea-Frost Refrigeration unit for the Galley Appliances are easy to reach, Batteries, Sea Cock locations; all of this makes great sense and is a testament to the way she was engineered and built.

Sea Trial Notes

I had the pleasure of running this 51 Dettling on a cool late November morning. The excuse was to get some drone Video footage, but I really was excited to see how she ran and handled. The Helm HVAC unit was a welcome feature, as it was "just cold enough" outside.I found the engine noise to be minimal, visibility at all speeds was excellent, in fact, I never lost sight of the Horizon while operating throughout the RPM range. Docking and was very easy and predictable. Trim tab response is good, steering is smooth and she carves turns nicely. The boat seems to be very happy at 22 kts.

  • Idle speed = 6 kts
  • 1000 rpm = 8 kts
  • 1200 rpm = 9 kts
  • 1400 rpm = 10 kts
  • 1600 rpm = 11 kts
  • 1800 rpm = 14.4 kts
  • 2000 rpm = 18.5 kts
  • 2200 rpm = 21 kts
  • 2400 rpm = 23 kts
  • Top Speed = 26.1 kts

Manufacturer's Description

This proven boat could be called an Express Cruiser, a Motoryacht and even a Downeaster, but regardless, the quality and the pedigree of having been designed by C. Raymond Hunt and built by the reputable Dettling Yacht Company, has distinguished itself as a premier yacht with a superb reputation.

Ed Dettling has produced some of the finest US built boats since he started in 1992. It has been said that he has a "relentless pursuit of perfection". That coupled with the reputation of C. Raymond Hunt designers and naval architects, with a long record of turning out some the finest, dryest, offshore performance hulls, make this boat quite exceptional. It is all about the details.

This boat can cruise economically at any speed up to 20 kts. and maxes out at 25 kts. All machinery is balanced into the aft section, therefore the noise levels inside the boat are minimal. The raised Express bridge, which can be open or closed, offers 360 degree visibility, allowing the owners to be able to cruise easily in quiet and comfort.

Not many of these solid, handsome boats hit the market.
