DESCRIPTION

Wooden Ships Comments Varnished Classic Day Boat

Varnished wooden day boat of an unknown design but almost certainly with Swedish origins. Possibly built on the Clyde, she has spent many years on the west coast of Scotland and has been a regular sight in those waters.

She underwent a major rebuild by a retired professional shipwright which took a reported 5 to 6 years, completed in 2013, prior to which she had been laid up ashore for approximately 20 years. During the rebuild the deck and many deck beams were replaced entirely as well as new keel bolts and other centreline fastenings. The running rigging and sails were all replaced and she was given a complete cosmetic refit. The standard of the work seems to be extremely good and she has seen little use since the rebuild was completed.

A simple boat with an open cockpit and small coachroof for shelter. Totally open through under the foredeck with varnished sole boards. There is enough space to sleep under the foredeck for adventurous camping weekends.

She is a delightful and pretty yacht, very easy to handle and in lovely condition inside and out. Complete with very good sails and an as new road trailer, this small but impressive boat is the perfect package for someone looking for a pretty day sailer. Easily towed behind a moderate car she can be transported to whatever sailing area takes your fancy and can be stored at home which will dramatically reduce the annual running costs of the boat.

Clean December 2018 survey available.

Construction

Carvel planked in 3/4″ Mahogany, all bronze screw fastened to fine steam bent oak timbers at 6″ centres. 3 fastenings per frame all covered with mahogany plugs. Topsides finished in varnish.

Sawn Oak floors across the centreline, fastened to the planking with bronze screws.

Cast Iron ballast keel held with iron keel bolts though the floors.

Deadwoods made of laminated timber, probably oak, give a deep ‘dead drop’ to the keel in place of a wine glass shaped bilge.

Marine plywood deck, sheathed externally on new oak deck beams and carlins. Varnished mahogany coverboard and king plank contrast nicely with the crisply painted deck. Whole deck structure completely new in the rebuild around 2013.

Varnished mahogany coamings all round with a small coachroof. Painted marine plywood coachroof deck.

Varnished mahogany fore hatch.

Tiller steering with the galvanised rudder stock mounted through the bottom of the hull.

Cockpit a suitable size for the crew with shelter from the coachroof. A small seat either side at the forward end of the cockpit.

Rig

Fractional bermudan sloop rig on a keel stepped varnished Spruce mast. Varnished spinnaker pole.

Varnished Spruce roller reefing boom

Stainless steel standing rigging dates from before the rebuild but with only 3 seasons use. Simple rig with cap shroud, lower shroud, forestay, single adjustable backstay and jumper struts.

Internal Stainless chainplates, all new in the refit, bolted through to below the waterline in order to spread the load evenly.

Single pair of Lewmar 6 winches on the coachroof for spinnaker and jib sheets.
