DESCRIPTION

Wooden Ships Comments on this Parhams Folkboat English Folkboat built by Parhams of Emsworth in 1963. Built to Folkboat lines but in carvel planking and with an extended coachroof to give more space below decks and standing headroom. She has been in the present ownership fromand again from 2006 until the present day and has been well cared for with planned annual maintenance and periods of professional repairs when required. New standing rigging in 2018, some keel bolts replaced in 2019 and a meticulous varnishing program every winter. Cruised extensively around the south coast, West Country and northern France from her Plymouth base this is a well loved and used Folkboat that is being offered for sale due to health reasons.   Length on Deck 25’4” Length Waterline 19’ Beam 7’ Draft 4’     Construction Carvel planked in Honduras mahogany fastened with copper rivets to steam bent oak timbers. Varnished mahogany transom. Hull is splined above the waterline to give a fair finish. Sawn oak floors across the centreline External iron ballast keel with a mix of bronze and stainless steel bolts. 2 bolts replaced in stainless in 2019 including the one under the engine. 2 other bolts replaced in 2007. Bolts pass through the floors in usual Folkboat way. Painted plywood deck with varnished mahogany toerails. Deck new and toerail in 1990. Varnished mahogany coachroof coamings made from a single board of mahogany. Sheathed plywood coachroof deck. Front end of coachroof replaced in 2010. Coachroof deck refurbished and a new sliding hatch fitted in 2004. Raised dog house aft with bronze framed window each side. 2 opening portholes either side in the comaings. Varnished mahogany forehatch set into the forward end of the coachroof. Hand rails on the dog house roof. Non-self draining cockpit with tiller steering on a transom hung rudder. New rudder bearings in 2010. Varnished teak cockpit thwarts wit lockers below. Bridge deck at forward end. Main sheet track across the cockpit. Scrubbed teak sole.     Rig Fractional Bermudan sloop rig on a deck stepped alloy mast. Alloy slab reefing boom. Stainless steel standing rigging to external stainless steel chain plates. Rigging new in 2018. Chain plates new in 2007. Single lower shroud and a cap shroud over a single set of spreaders. Jumper struts support the upper section of the mast. Single adjustable backstay. Tab roller furling system on the jib. Mainsail in fair condition, jib and spinnaker in good condition. New UV strip on jib in 2018. Pair of bottom action tuffnell cockpit sheet winches     Machinery Yanmar 1GM10 single cylinder diesel installed new in 2005. Stainless shaft to a centreline fixed 2 blade bronze propeller gives 4 knots cruising speed, 5.5 knots max using 1.5 litres/hour. New shaft and stern gland in 2018. New cutlass bearing and refurbished stern tube in 2019. 10 litre fuel tank under the aft deck. 2 x 12 volt batteries for engine starting and domestics. Charged from the engine alternator and a fixed solar panel on the aft deck. 1 manual bilge pump and 1 auto electric bilge pump.     Accommodation 3 single berths with 5’6” headroom under the dog house. New bunk cushions in 2016. Steps down over the engine box with a quarter berth to starboard going aft under the cockpit thwarts. Storgae locker to port with drawers. Port side settee berth with sitting headroom. To starboard is the galley with a single stainless sink and space for a portable gas stove. Manually pumped fresh water from a 10 litre plastic tank up forward. Moving forward into the forepeak with a large single berth and storage space.
