DESCRIPTION

Wooden Ships Comments on this Morecambe Bay Prawner Built by Crossfields of Arnside in 1936, probably as a fishing vessel but her early history is not well known. A history of the Crossfields yard can be found here: In a previous ownership she had a major refit which included complete re-fastening of the hull, new deck, deck beams and coachroof, new mast and all new rigging. She is currently in need of a cosmetic tidy up but appears to be structurally sound. She has no engine, there is an outboard which mounts on a bracket on the quarter which pushes her along very satisfactorily, plus there is a large sculling oar which is extremely useful. An attractive looking boat with a well documented recent refit history, in need of tidying up. Good headroom and space below decks considering her dimensions.   Length on Deck 29’6” Beam 9’9” Draft 3’6”     Construction Planked in some kind of pine fastened with 2.5” galvanised screws to heavy sawn oak frames. The hull was totally re-fastened in 2008 with any necessary plank repairs. Sawn oak frames are in pairs, fastened through with galvanised bolts. Frames are 3.75” x 3.5” at 12” centres. Grown oak floors across the centreline External iron ballast keel fastened with iron bolts. Straight laid iroko deck, screw fastened to iroko deck beams with caulked and payed seams using butyl rubber. Deck structure all new in 2006. Coachroof with iroko coamings, finished with gloss paint externally. Sheathed plywood coachroof deck. All new coachroof in 2006. Bulwarks all round on stanchions mounted through the cover board. Varnished capping rail.     Rig Gaff cutter rig on a keel stepped varnished wooden mast. Varnished wooden boom, gaff yard and bowsprit. Mast and bowsprit new in 2011 from Noble Spars. Varnish on all spars needs stripping and replacing. Galvanised wire standing rigging, parcelled and served in the traditional way, with dead eyes and lanyards to external galvanised chain plates. Rigging all new in 2011. 3 strand running rigging with varnished ash blocks. Tan mainsail, topsail, 2 x staysails and jib.     Machinery Mercury 5hp long shaft 4 stroke outboard engine mounts on a bracket over the port quarter. External fuel tank. Sculling oar over the stern for close quarters manoeuvrability. 2 x Zenith 6volt 224ah deep cycle batteries charged with a solar panel.     Accommodation Steps down from the wide companion hatch into the main cabin. 6’ headroom under the coachroof. Iroko work surface to port with a stainless sink set in. Bronze hand pump for fresh water. To starboard is a large space previously fitted with a solid fuel cabin heater but could be finished with a galley stove or have another cabin heater installed. Saloon has a settee berth either side, both of 6’2” length. Pansy charcoal stove forward end of the saloon, recently fitted. Passageway either side of the mast into the forepeak which has a large double V-berth with the forehatch over.       Full specification and details available upon request       Disclaimer: These particulars have been prepared in good faith from information provided by the Vendors and are intended as a guide, Wooden Ships cannot guarantee or warrant the accuracy of this information nor warrant the condition of the vessel.
