DESCRIPTION

Wooden Ships Comments on this Laurent Giles Vertue V1 The first Vertue, V1 Andrillot, fresh from a thorough 2 year professional refit. V1, the first of the Vertue design to have been built, is an important part of our maritime heritage. The Vertue has become an iconic design, renowned for reliability and sea keeping, adapted and changed over the years but with the fundamental design unchanging. Vertues have voyaged right across the globe and have become legends in their own right. V1 was built by Moodys and launched in 1936. Originally fitted with a gaff rig, she was the only Vertue to have been rigged like this which sets her apart from the rest of the fleet, as well as carrying V1 on her sail. Converted to a bermudan cutter with a bowsprit in 1948, this is the rig she still carries with her new mast. Andrillot has been owned by the same family since 1981 and went through a major refit in the early years and again between 2017 and today. In the recent patch of work she has had a complete refit of the hull with all new caulking, a new mast and complete replacement of the mast support structure below decks. She is now in lovely condition with a good 2018 survey.
