Wooden Ships Comments on this Fred Parker Motor Sailer Built by the Sandbanks Yacht Company Ltd in 1948, one of two boats built, believed to be to a Fred Parker design. She is a practical and comfortable coastal cruising boat with a large aft cockpit, decent size wheelhouse and a cabin forward with the heads, galley and an extra berth. She is a practical and comfortable coastal cruising boat with a large aft cockpit, decent size wheelhouse and a cabin forward with the heads, galley and an extra berth. The small Bermudan rig is easily managed and although she will not win any races under sail, she will move along nicely in a free wind. Bought by the present owner in 2013, she has had a lot of professional refit work carried out including a complete new foredeck, plenty of new planking and frames and other general improvements. An ideal boat for coastal pottering and weekends afloat, she is safe, sea worthy and easy to handle with a good mix in interior and exterior space. Length on Deck 30’6” Length Waterline 26’ Beam 9’1” Draft 3’6” Thames Tonnage 9TM     Construction Planked in mahogany, copper clench fastened to steamed oak timbers. A number of shifts of planking have been replaced in iroko. Believed to be Elm garboards. Mix of sawn oak and galvanised strap floors across the centreline. External cast iron ballast keel with a mix of bronze and stainless steel keel bolts. Straight laid teak foredeck over a plywood subdeck with varnished mahogany coamings. Stainless steel stanchions and pulpit. The whole foredeck including deckbeams and beamshelf has been renewed. Varnished butterfly skylight and forehatch on the foredeck. Wheelhouse has varnished teak coamings with an epoxy sheathed plywood wheelhouse roof. Deep aft cockpit with door into wheelhouse. High varnished coaming all round with thwarts/lockers either side. Cockpit cushions all round. Transom hung rudder, can either be helmed with the tiller or the wheel inside the wheelhouse.     Rig Bermudan sloop rig on a keel stepped varnished wooden mast. Mast passes through the wheelhouse roof and steps onto the keel. Varnished wooden roller reefing boom. Galvanised wire standing rigging to internal stainless steel chain plates. Twin lower shrouds and a single cap shroud. Standing backstay to a stainless steel bumpkin. Running backstays with Highfield levers. Tan sails with main and jib in good condition. Storm jib in white terylene. 2 x mast winches for halyard falls. 2 x Tufnol cockpit sheet winches     Machinery Vetus 4.15 33hp 4 cyl marine diesel installed new in 2004. Technodrive hydraulic gearbox to a centreline fixed 3 blade bronze propeller. Copper diesel tank. 2 x 12 volt batteries charged from engine alternator 2 manual bilge pumps and 2 auto electric bilge pumps.     Accommodation 3 single berths including 2 in the wheelhouse and a single berth to starboard in forward cabin. Comfortable interior with oil lamp lighting. Large wheelhouse with a settee berth either side and varnished grate sole boards. Helm to port. Starboard side door into the forward cabin with a berth to starboard, galley to port and heads in the bows. Galley has a Tilley Talisman 2 burner gas stove on gimbals and a single stainless sink. Fresh water is from portable containers.
