DESCRIPTION

Wooden Ships Comments on this Fairlie Yacht Slip Motor Yacht

Designed by Archibald MacMillan and built by the Fairlie Yacht Slip Ltd in 1968.

An elegant and robust twin engine motor yacht built for comfortable cruising. Heavily built hull in mahogany with an aluminium superstructure and twin Gardner 6LX 127hp diesel engines. She has a good cruising speed of 7.5 knots.

Her commissioning owner was a tall gentleman so he requested extra headroom throughout, meaning most of the interior has 7’ headroom with full standing height in the engine room as well.

Large aft deck with a sun awning is perfect for cruising in warmer climates. She has a full heating and air conditioning system throughout with 4 sleeping cabins and 4 heads compartments plus a large and open deck saloon.

She has been based in Turkey for many years and in the present ownership since 1985, used for private cruising around the Aegean in Turkey and Greece. Last slipped in September 2021.

Construction

Carvel planked in mahogany fastened with bronze screws to laminated oak frames. Frames are 5” x 3” at approximately 13” centres.

Copper sheathed below the waterline.

5 tons of internal lead ballast.

Solid straight laid Burma teak deck, caulked and payed, and fastened with bronze screws. Varnished teak coverboards.

Bulwark all round on heavy oak stanchions with a varnished teak capping rail.

Elegant varnished teak butterfly skylight on both foredeck and aft deck. Canvas sun shade over the aft deck.

Internal ballast of concrete and lead, total of 10 tons. Bronze centreline keel bolts, last drawn in October 2021.

Central wheelhouse with deck saloon in aluminium. White painted superstructure.

Rig

No sailing rig but she has a small varnished spruce mast, deck stepped on the roof of the deck saloon which acts as a derrick crane to lift the tenders on and off their chocks on the deck saloon roof.

Varnished spruce mast and boom with stainless standing rigging.

Machinery

2 x Gardner 6LX diesels of 127hp each. Installed new in 1968.

Approximately 5200 hours with details service and maintenance records.

Gardner gearboxes to fixed 3 blade bronze propellers. 7.5 knots cruising speed, 10.5 knots max speed. 14 litres/hour at cruising speed. Single lever controlled gearboxes.

Full sets of spares for the engines stored aboard.

Full standing headroom in the engine room.

2 x painted steel fuel tanks of 2250 litres each. Located port and starboard in the engine room.

9 x 12 volt batteries in 3 separate banks located under the engine room sole. 1 battery for generator starting. 2 banks of 4 batteries with 224 volt output for engine starting and domestic power.

12 volt, 24 volt and 240 volt systems.

Batteries charged from the 24 volt engine alternators or through 2 x Constavolt 240 volt battery chargers.

D-Smart 7kw diesel generator installed new in 2021.

Port engine runs a hydraulic pump for powering the anchor windlass and stern capstan.

Webasto diesel fired central heating system.

Cruisair heating and air conditioning system throughout the interior of the vessel.

4 x Vosper Thornycroft stabilizers fitted to the hull.

2 x fibreglass water tanks with a total capacity of 3750 litres.

Accommodation

10 berths including a double and 8 single berths in 4 separate sleeping cabins. 7’ headroom throughout the interior.

Largely original interior. The commissioning owner was a very tall gentleman and requested more headroom than was common at the time, making her very unusual for a motor yacht of her time.

Deck saloon with comfortable seating and large saloon table. Steps up to the wheelhouse which is at a raised level to offer excellent visibility.

2 separate aft sleeping cabins. Cabin 1 has 2 single berths and an ensuite heads and shower. Cabin 2 has a double berth and 2 single berths with a wash basin. Separate heads compartment with shower and basin.

Forward are another 2 separate sleeping cabins. Cabin 3 is a master cabin with 2 single berths and an ensuite heads and shower. Cabin 4 is the crew cabin with 2 single berths, one up and one down.
